What does "socmed problem" mean in this context?

There are many times new technology is made to solve problems that don't exist, luckily I see some of the current problems that sites like DBuzz could fix. Twitter's latest update being one of them.

The problems include censorship, social engineering of lives and society by non-organic / AI rigged following feeds, and closed sourced social media monopolies.

In short, the problem is centralization, and D.Buzz as well as #Hive, is, & will solve this.

OH! Oooooh! "Socmed" is short for Social Media, then?

While I see the problems in "centralization" I think there are many merits in centralized services, for one decision-making is much faster. I'd love it if both types co-existed.

They can co-exist if there are hundreds to thousands of smaller #SocialMedia platforms that are open source, and integrate with each other

Each platform could be owned by centralized owners but being open source, and cross integrating would still make the ecosystem decentralized

That's exactly how the Fediverse (Mastodon) works.

Not quite like #Hive though.

On Hive the entire community is built into each #DApp instance by default.

I don't think #Mastadon is the same way.

Yeah, the Fediverse is a lot different, but while the platform itself is very decentralized, the moderators have more control for what happens in their communities. Some people will like that more. Here, HIVE as a whole can influence smaller communities with downvotes/upvotes.
