The light novel itself is currently at vol.25 which is still adapting Web Novel part 23 so it's ending soon. The Light Novel expands the Web Novel a lot and the anime & manga are based on the LN, not the WN.

The official English translation of the Light Novel is on Vol.14 now.

I've seen that on Amazon. I actually own 3 Parts in German, which I found in little stores and just bought for the purpose of collecting.

Well, I'm only at Light Novel Volume 13 right now.

As for its complete status: it's a bit complicated... The original story is a web novel, that is finished in 24 parts and is fully fan-translated in English. This acts as a draft for the Light Novel version.

Like... what? I'm not sure what a Web Novel shall be?

Do you mean the Author just wrote and published it very raw and the Light Novel is the clear writing by professional writers already, while that became the Manga/Anime with probably some adaptions?

This is the web novel website for Mushoku Tensei: http://ncode.syosetu.com/n9669bk/

Unfortunately, I can't read it, haha~

Ha! Slick Slick.

To make one thing clear, it's the same author that does both the Web Novel and the Light Novel, but it's like the difference between the first and final draft. The web novel is still free, but Light Novel is sold because it's the better-written version!

That makes a lot of sense and it's indeed really tempting to read ahead.

Yes, exactly!

The Web Novels are the raw versions of the story, and the Light Novels are re-written versions with the help of a publisher.

Many, many anime that are based on Light Novels have free Web Novel versions online, including the popular ReZero and Shield Hero.
