Coinbase fees are somewhat high in the app. Coinbase pro is slightly better. Overall, the skimming in the Coinbase app makes it profitable for the shareholders - but not good in the long term as competitors can offer more transparency.
You can test my word by trying to buy at market price through their app - they give you crypto priced higher than true market price. Seems ok on Coinbase Pro (haven't validated personally yet), but at least fees are reduced.
- Institutional execs moving into the space will lead to diminished value to the end user over time
- Short term, the value to shareholders will be high as its name is up there with Robinhood + Crypto + BTC. Just on brand awareness alone I would be bullish.
- Risks: locking people out of trades could lead to a mass exodus, esp. after the manner of Robinhood (WSB scandal) -- and Coinbase wouldn't be alone in that issue, Kraken cancelling margins is guilty as well (whether technical issues or intentional sabotage), also lawsuits by WSB-herds
