Being a songwriter from Havana and living all these years a few blocks away from the well-known Malecón, the sea is a recurring theme in my creations. Simply put, I look out the window and there it is.... immense, blue, calm, indomitable, and unpredictable. Overflowing with stories, offering us its dazzling beauty and collecting when it gets angry all that we have taken from it in this crazy eagerness we humans have to conquer and expand, appropriating whatever we can at "risk and peril". Breaking, even in a selfish, indolent and unconscious way, the most elementary natural laws.

This sea jealously guards the most terrible secrets of an orphan island in the wind, and the saddest events of the conquests and unbridled ambition of our colonizing ancestors; without in me there is, not by any means, the intention of trying to minimize with this to our closest and no less cruel contemporaries.

This piece of sea that I inhabit, north of Havana, belongs to the Gulf of Mexico and has its protector deity -Mistress and Lady of the waters- to whom many Cubans are devoted; The Holy Virgin of Regla for the Catholics, Yemayá for the practitioners of the "Regla de Ocha" or Yorubá religion.

For my part, from my non-religious position, I have always been captivated by the sea and this Orisha in particular, so to round up this whole idea in a 3 minute song was quite a challenge. I was sitting on the Malecon watching in ecstasy -as so many other times- the magical sunset and the images came like a movie. It is always very difficult for me to narrate my creative processes, I am totally intuitive and I do not prepare myself to create, I have already said it on other occasions, I hope that the "Muses will grant me their benevolence, in their own time... and in their own way".

A few years later -in 2019- this song - "SERÉ AZUL" (rumbaYambú)- was selected to participate as a finalist in the 15th and last edition of the Cuban Song Contest "Adolfo Guzmán". Coincidentally, before the call for the contest I had already decided to record the song, it is one of my songs that I have wanted to record myself, especially at that time when I was categorically refused to interpret them. I had the idea of doing it my way; minimal, guitar, percussion and voice. I looked for two excellent musicians for the recording and in the end we added an electric bass. This recording was the one I sent to the contest and it was chosen among the 20 finalist songs. About the contest itself; I can only tell you that it was a life experience that made it very clear to me that music is not a sport and you don't compete with it -Jajajajajajajajajajajajaja-. That's how it was... you always learn something new.

This song is a plea, a prayer for change, for the need of human evolution in pursuit of something better, it is a cry of hope; a look... to the horizon.

El ser un compositor de canciones, habanero, y vivir todos estos años a unas pocas cuadras del conocido Malecón; hace que el tema del mar sea muy recurrente en mis creaciones. Simplemente; es asomarme por la ventana y ahí está... inmenso, azul, calmo, indomable, e impredecible. Desbordado de historias, brindándonos su hermosura deslumbrante y cobrando cuando se enoja todo lo que le hemos arrebatado en este loco afán que tenemos los humanos de conquistar y expandirnos, apropiándonos de lo que podamos a "cuenta y riesgo". Rompiendo, incluso de manera egoísta, indolente e inconsciente, las más elementales leyes naturales.

Este mar guarda celosamente los más terribles secretos de una isla huérfana en el viento, y los más tristes sucesos de las conquistas y ambición desmedida de nuestros ancestros colonizadores; sin que en mí exista, ni por asomo, la intención de tratar de minimizar con esto a nuestros más cercanos y no menos crueles contemporáneos.

Este pedazo de mar que habito; al norte de La Habana, pertenece al Golfo de México y tiene su deidad protectora -Dueña y Señora de las aguas- de la que muchos cubanos son devotos; La Santísima Virgen de Regla para los católicos, Yemayá para los practicantes de La "Regla de Ocha" o religión Yorubá.

Por mi parte, desde mi posición no religiosa, siempre me he sentido cautivado por el mar y esta Orisha en particular, así que redondear toda esta idea en una canción de 3 minutos y pico; fue todo un reto. Estaba sentado en el Malecón observando extasiado -como tantas otras veces- el mágico atardecer y las imágenes llegaron como una película. Siempre me es muy difícil narrar mis procesos de creación, soy totalmente intuitivo y no me preparo para crear, ya lo he dicho en otras ocasiones, espero que las "Musas me otorguen su benevolencia, a su tiempo... y a su aire".

Unos años después -en el 2019- esta canción -"SERÉ AZUL" (rumbaYambú)- fue seleccionada a participar como finalista en la Décima 5.ª y última edición del Concurso de la canción cubana "Adolfo Guzmán". Casualmente, antes de la convocatoria al concurso ya había decidido grabar el tema, es una de mis canciones que he querido grabar yo, sobre todo en aquel tiempo en el que estaba rotundamente negado a interpretarlas. Tuve la idea de hacerlo a mi manera; mínimal, guitarra, percusión y voz. Busqué dos excelentes músicos para la grabación y al final le añadimos un bajo eléctrico. Esta grabación fue la que mandé al concurso y fue elegida entre las 20 canciones finalistas. Del concurso en sí; solo les cuento que fue una experiencia de vida que me dejo muy en claro que la música no es un deporte y no se compite con ella -Jajajajajajaja-. Así fue... siempre se aprende algo nuevo.

Esta canción es una súplica, una plegaria a un cambio, a la necesidad de la evolución humana en pos de algo mejor, es un grito de esperanza; una mirada... al horizonte.
