Friday morning with good vibe

Greetings!

Yesterday was a busy day for me, and I had just a little time to check my phone. In that brief moment, I made sure to use it to draft and make a post, which is a big priority for me. Honestly, if I don't post in a day, it feels like a significant part of me is missing. I received a message notification from @captainman, but I couldn't open it then because if I had, I wouldn't have had time to reply properly. And if I left it unattended for too long, only God knows when I'd remember to respond.

Waking up on Friday morning (today), I quickly rushed to open his message. It was a link to a singing post he made. Since I love music, I clicked on it immediately, hoping it wouldn't be a song I couldn't relate to, especially the foreign ones. When I opened it, this guy had me shouting, "Wow! Wow! Wow!" As I told him in the comment, I was genuinely jealous of his singing ability.

Aside from his impressive singing, he introduced me to a song I instantly fell in love with: "Calling" by Chinko Ekun and Johnny Drille. Oh my God! The lyrics in this song are just so soothing, and I’ve been asking myself how I hadn't heard of it until now. It's unfortunate how some great songs don't get the recognition they deserve due to the low-key nature of certain artists, while less remarkable ones make waves and top charts simply because of how famous the artists are and the extent of promotion they receive. Of course, promotion is all about money, and many times, these low-key artists aren't financially buoyant enough to fund aggressive promotion campaigns.

This song, "Calling," as I mentioned, is full of masterful wordcraft, blending beautifully with the rhythm. Although there were some unnecessary lines that Chinko used in the lyrics just to maintain the rhyme, overall, it's very soothing to the ear. Some of those lines were even funny, especially when used to woo a lady. The music video complemented the lyrics very well, especially when the lady in the video was seen smiling and bluffing at those lines.

Johnny Drille, known for his soft, melancholic voice, worked magic on the lyrics. He even had his own verse in the song.
Johnny Drille is a bit more popular compared to Chinko Ekun because he was, and maybe still is, a member of one of the biggest music groups in Nigeria, MAVINS. As for Chinko Ekun, this is only the second time I'm hearing his music. The first song I heard from him was loud and shouty, so I was pleasantly surprised to see him come out with something this smooth and mellow.

This song is a love song, but at the end of the video, I discovered that it also raises awareness for breast cancer. So, I’m joining the cause to tell you that you can fight breast cancer, and please, let’s not stigmatize those affected.

Thanks for reading.
