Stand up; freedom is just ahead.

If you have had the opportunity to watch the movie of this song, then you would understand the powerful lyrics behind it.

A song of freedom!

A song that showed a warrior by heart, a woman by appearance, a brave soul with one hell of audacity at her disposal. A woman that was ready to lead her people to freedom no matter how hard and impossible that kind of dream was.

I think the first time I heard the song Stand Up by Cynthia Erivo I was totally enchanted by it—not just the song but the movie itself. It's not everyday you find a woman jumping off a bridge into a river just to run away from her captive.

The song was a symbol of the blacks freedom from enslavery; the blacks were killed, and they were all treated like animals. Though I would say the fault was from those ignorant white men who thought of themselves as superior. What took me by surprise was she was able to do what some men couldn't do; she wanted her family, her lover, her people liberated, and she found her strength through that. It was a mission impossible looking at the fact that she was just a woman, a woman that society paints as the weaker and fragile member of a society, but she moved past that biased mindset when she gave so many lives hope and so many families happiness.

Stand Up is one inspiring song; it paints the beauty of freedom, not just freedom for blacks; it also paints the muscular part of a woman; she's strong, capacity within her can be reached, bravery is unlimited in her paths, and if she fails, she fails... But that doesn't give excuses for failure, because she would stand up again. It shows that as much as a woman can be feminine, she can reach goals and heights with all her gathered strength. One strength was her family, her people. It was a liberation for the blacks, and as well as herself, she gained her respect among men.

One part that got me amazed was when she learned how to use a gun, and boy oh boy you could see the struggle between her shooting a gun and dragging that gown of hers. It wasn't a battle for the weak, knowing fully well that back in her days they wore much heavier gowns.

Well, in conclusion, I honestly love the song; the lyrics also tell its story, and it also won an Oscar award; we're talking about 4 years ago, but this song still has its impact knowing that the movie acted based on a real-life story.
