I gotta say Camile has to be the quintessential postmodern composer. This idea of making pieces using his own ideas and adding others to the mix like a pastiche is the first idea of a remix in history. Pretty cool composition. I cracked a laugh when I heard the theme of Danse Macabre in major key. It made me think of skeletons dancing clumsily. And of course all that talent playing the piano makes everything better!
Yeah, the skeletons should dance here 🤣
I am not sure was he the first who did a "remix" , if we would call it that way.

Joseph Haydn used some tunes in his works from folklore.. Liszt, Brahms too. Liszt even made a whole series of studies based on Paganini's works. And other examples, I should check for all of them, but yes, Camille made a parody on own tune + others in the same composition 🤣
Although, the dance macabre was not written in a very happy mood, I think he wrote it after his wife's death.
Oh, the talent. You know what they say, it's about 1% of talent and 99% of studying 😁
But making a parody and doing the compiling and different things. Of course, I'm not trying to diminish the efforts of such great names. A lot more of respect goes on for that.
I know dance macabre is sad a tune. A very beautiful tune.
I'm sure of it. 😜
