Everyone needs a place to live and call home.
Maybe its a luxurious house.
More commonly it is a small apartment.
Sometimes its just a dorm room or perhaps just a shared room in a rented apartment.
For some people its just a cardboard box on the street....although I hope that isn't you.
This weeks posting topic for the Frugal community is to tell about housing in your community.
- What types of places do people usually live in?
- Is it more common to rent or own?
- How expensive is it to rent?
- How would you go about finding a place to stay
- What steps are involved in getting the place
- Are there common frauds or problems with landlords or renters?
- What would you look for in a place to stay?
What advice would you give to someone looking to find a place to stay in your community?
Keep the word count over 300 words to be eligible for curation. Rewards will be at my decision and not based on word count although more effort and information means better chance at a prize!
This weeks mission? Should anyone be interested....

And for anyone else, member of the group and not...Hope you decide to join in,
Mission completed
Here's my entry
https://peakd.com/hive-192111/@jjmusa2004/financial-costs-of-renting-versus
Read it. Along with the others. Very good entry. Thank you
You're welcome
I love this week's topic, will enjoy writing this.
I don't really understand the mission, so I will pass......
Look forward to reading your post.
The missions sound harder than they are....well, at least for the right person.
The first mission would involve reading a couple articles on a different style of house built using barbed wire, sandbags, and earth. Then find out if it is possible to buy sandbags or barbed wire in your area plus prices. If sandbags aren't available it can also be done using the sacks that hold rice...so maybe a rice farmer might be better person.
The second mission is just to see what types of apartments are available. Check out the location of an inexpensive one and take a couple of pictures. I remember when you mentioned a room for rent can be had for 5000 Naira/month and I'm still curious what a room like that would look like. What area it would be located in. How you would go about renting it and the process involved.
No pressure, missions are supposed to be fun. If it's not fun then don't do it ;)
Okay
I understand now.
Looking forward to reading the write up from the mission.
IF anyone decides to do it :)
Someone will
This mission sounds a bit complex hehe... But let's see what will happen.. I will give it a try.. I hope I can still make my entry during the weekend?
The weekly post is just that....One week. Basically if I haven't posted rewards its still up for writing. I'm not like the Hive Learners which has a much stricter timeline. Then again, they are juggling 5000 people so timelines are super important there.
As for the mission.
I have always thought an earthbag home would be an awesome way to make a house for someone using virtually nothing more than time and effort. Considering I'm talking to some resourceful Nigerians here I am eager to get a second opinion. Mission #1 would be reading an article or two (with lots of pictures) and then seeing if the barbed wire and bags are available there in Nigeria.... Or any other country that someone chooses to write from. The bags are virtually unavailable here because if they are needed they are provided by the city in times of emergency. However, they are super common in the Philippines where my parents are.
But my parents don't let me go shopping by myself. They treat me like a toddler which is really annoying.
Mission #2: @jmis101 wrote that a room can be had for as little at 5000 Naira monthly. That sounds absurdly cheap to me. However, if it is indeed true it makes me wonder just what a room like that would look like. Would anyone want to live in it? What would a nice little place to stay cost.
However, I don't know how much to offer for either of those two missions so if you are interested please provide me with the budget money you would require.
Thanks.
I happened to have a picture of a house, though.... Well let me leave the details for my post.
That's the reason why I like this week's topic.
Let's see how it is going to be.. I will go on a hunt later to see if I can gather some information.. the only problem might be getting original pictures.. I could capture the outside though but within could be tough .. either ways let's see what will happen
Understood. Getting pictures inside a room for rent is always challenging and usually means posing as a potential renter. For that you need show money (usually). Let me know what you come up with. I think there is one other person interested (@rare-gem) but I'll hold off on giving out the mission until I get a solid proposal and solid budget.
Okay sir, I wouldn't like to really take as a mission, but I would still make my post, I am planning to go on strolling tomorrow 😁😂 so I'll try to get in touch with few individuals and get the necessary informations, if I succeed I'll drop my post . Nevertheless let the missing be given to the other person, since she has already come up with a budget. I am convinced she's going to come up with something huge
Lets hope so but next mission maybe.
Will work on my entry. Please try to add a deadline to each weeks challenge.
I wanted to add the deadline part too.
This could help to stay on track.
Thank you very much dear.
One week... unless you ask politely for an extension ;)
One week is okay.
Haha... I thought that was implied in the name. It is a weekly challenge. It lasts for one week. Unless I have family obligations or a sore tooth or go on vacation... then it may get extended 😎😎
Alright then.
😂
I'm sure you won't have any of those emergencies.
Thank you for your immense efforts.
You're admired
You know I'm a father, right?
Family emergencies just seem to be part of life around here.
....but I'll still do my best to take care of my #Frugal family too :)
You're right. Welldone sire
Entry coming soon
@tergan I would love to take up the second mission
Send me a proposal on how you would do the mission and a budget on how much you would expect to be paid and I'll see what I can do. @emreal is also looking at it. Maybe others. Best proposal at lowest price gets the mission. Good luck 😁
Sorry in Nigeria, a house rental is usually for one year. What budget are you expecting @tergan. Is it for a year cus that will be huge
Not looking to rent anything. Sorry if I'm misleading. I'm just looking for information on prices of things that are for rent. As an example look at my post :
https://www.ecency.com/hive-192111/@tergan/a-place-of-your-own-in-an-unaffordable-market
I didn't rent anything but I found out how much for different places in my local area.
As missions are paid posts I want an idea of how much I'm paying for the post to e made before I say yes. If you need money for internet, money for transport to look at places, money to bribe someone to look at a room for rent inside. Well, that's why I'm offering HBD in advance :)
....but if too expensive then have to pass on it 😎
Actually renting a place is for once I have a lot more HBD saved up. In Canada places are typically rented month by month...even knowing places there rent yearly is awesome information.
Thank you
Alright, I will do the search today and definitely transport, and to talk to people for permission just to get what I wanted that's all @tergan
$4 for the rental agent for easy access
$2 for my logisticHello @tergan, I'm ready with my budget, I spoke with the house rent agent in my community that will give me access to different houses and to know how much they pay annually but I will have to give him a tip which is #3000 which amount to $4 plus my logistics to and fro different areas #1,500 which amount to $2 because the transport fare in Nigeria now is outrageous because of the high price of petroleum. Therefore my budget is:
Total: $6
I will be awaiting your response, thanks.
I've transferred $10 HBD. $4 for agency, $2 for logistics. $4 for, well, its not much but for the work.
Okay, boss, the mission will be accomplished
By the way....how much is huge ??
I will go on the search today and give you a feedback @tergan
You can call home from this place. It looks very small but looks very beautiful.
Hehe... The house in the picture is actually made from rice sacks, dirt, and barbed wire...plus a lot of hardwork. I think its awesome but I'll post more about that another time :)
This week posting topic is really interesting, watch out for my post soon.
