It has been quite some time since I have managed to pull off a successful trade. Multiple variables can be accounted for as to why that has been happening. A clouded mind extremely distressed from familial problems, surviving Covid and even the death of one of my pet birds, a tiny, beautiful budgie, can also be added to the list. But that is what life is all about, is it not! If one thing life has taught me is that nobody is susceptible to a life ‘without problems’. So it is futile to regret or compare your own life with others and then have regrets.
Though I do have my fair share of regrets,. To be honest, what I regret most is not being greedy enough. I have always been taught that greed is bad. If I ever have kids, I will teach them greed is good. Because even though morality clashes with greed the hardest, you will see that everyone who is successful is greedy. If they say otherwise, then they are in just plain denial or lying to you. You may ask why I say that. Because there exists no other stronger emotion than greed. To find an example of that, you don’t have to go far. Look at the platform we are on. It is one of the most incredible web 3 creations out there to exist, which might completely change content monetization in the near future, and even we have our fair share of greedy, conniving small-minded people who have been farming our reward pool and DAO for ages now. Look at any of the top charts, and you will see what I mean. So what is stopping us from being them? Being up there among the kings who earn more than a moderate job in global standards for a fraction of the effort? The answer is simple, and yes, it is greed.
Let me give you another example of this. If any of you reading this are members of BDC and have been active in our discord server throughout the last few days, you might’ve come across our attempt at cleansing the server and our community from blatant farmers. We have a straight and raw policy about keeping no connection with authors who post in steem. And while cleansing the server, I have been fantastically mesmerized by this humane phenomenon of how when greed gets a hold of you, you lose all your judgment of right and wrong! It is straight-up fascinating! I was not surprised even one bit with how two of our most prolific authors just straight up chose mentality and farming over a sense of belonging to a community, a family. I can never do that! Because I am not greedy enough, which I have realized to be needing to evolve.
For ages, we, Bangals, have been associated with the most heinous of labelling as if all of us were scammers, spammers. In Hive, in earlier times, we had been called the ugliest of names to our faces. We were the scum of the earth, bottom feeders. And for a long time, I tried to do anything I can to change the situation. It improved over time, but the labelling still persists, but it was just moved to behind closed doors. But while that was happening, I was blinded to the fact that my brothers and sisters weren’t improving, evolving. Before they posted crap, didn’t get voted, so begged for votes. Now when the situation has improved, they write the same crap, get voted and don’t beg for votes anymore. Because they simply do not care. Still, they earn more in a bad month than I do in a good month. Why though? Because I am not greedy enough.
This I say directly to my bangali brothers and sisters. You know sometimes, money is not everything. The spectre you are chasing is not the ghost of Christmas past. There is no redoing your life, the tags that automatically get assigned to you due to the courses you take, the actions you choose. I have been on both sides of the fence for long enough to know that even though, at times, that sensation of exclusiveness persists for longer than usual, it is fake. And it will be nothing else but a waste of time. So, while you are sacrificing your conscience over pennies, remember this. Even in your most private of moments, when you are knee-deep feeling the warmth of your lover, remember that it is all a lie. You are only deceiving yourself. And that is all there is to it. And as always, if you who chose to leave, chose money over friendship and community, if you ever decide that a necessary change is due, we will always welcome you with open arms. And that I say as the representative of BDC.
It is your choices that makes you who you are…
If you lose your ethics there is nothing left. Entitlement is a powerful emotion. There are many people here who believes it’s “our” duty to provide “support”. We should do it no matter what content they produce. Why? I don’t have an answer. Some say… oh I was here from the beginning! Some say.. many others are doing it why do me? Some say oh others the looting the DAO why are you focusing on the small players! .. all true.
But it’s still our choices that makes us who we are.
I fear that the sense of entitlement was a byproduct of our good will and open arms. like a double edged sword.
As you said dada, we choose good over everything, they didnt. Betal shotti, ornnyodev shotti, spark o shotti.
