Before joining this new era of social media, I had never dreamt or even imagined myself as a writer. Back then, when I was still so active on Facebook, I used to write and post very shot articles of just about 200 words. It seemed a lot to me by then but when I crossed over to steemit, I realized that I was doing nothing at all on Facebook, as the shot content on the dapp was mostly considered as low quality and spam posts.
Due to my curiosity and eagerness to learn, I started checking out other people’s posts on the trending page. Looking at the long quality content created by other authors, made me feel so challenged. I asked myself a question. Are writers born or made? You may as well be asking yourself the same question. By the end of this blog post, you will have understood my response to this question.
The motivation
Often times we write out of motivation. To be honest I am mostly motivated by monetary rewards to write and post my content on this platform. I believe most hivers are like me. I also believe that rewards come where something valuable has been created.
"Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depth of your heart; confess to yourself you would have to die if you were forbidden to write."
― Rainer Maria Rilke Quote source
Meditation
It involves a careful study and pondering on a subject matter in order to build up ideas and generate a meaningful story. The best environment for meditation is a quiet place. Personally, a quiet venue works perfectly for me, however, some people can also meditate with music on and other noisy staff around them.
"Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen."
― John Steinbeck quote source
Writing indeed begins off with an idea then comes the explosion of other ideas that the author keeps picking up and adding onto the initial one.
Reading
Great writers are great readers. Writing and reading are inseparable. If you desire to write more effectively, then be sure and ready to up your reading culture. This can be done by committing yourself to read other hivers content and engaging with them in the comments section of their blog posts.
"If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that."
--Stephen King Quote source
Researching
Knowledge is a power source. Being ignorant is not an excuse. When you lack knowledge on certain aspects that you would love to incorporate in your articles then researching is a right step that ought to be taken. This expounds your knowledge and enables the writer to come up with a well-researched and quality information laid out in his blog post.
In conclusion, Writing is a skill that can be developed by anyone. When a person has a passion and is committed to writing, then he is rest-assured of good quality results at the end of the day.
