"Save us please save us" Maria cried as the boat swayed from one direction to another. The storm's rage was at its peak and would overthrow their boat in no time. She panicked because of her little brother which she had taken sailing with her.
She tried to control the waves as she sailed faster. With tears in her eyes, she looked at her little brother who was fast asleep in the boat. She tried as hard as she could to keep him dry.
The storm raged more and more and the sun was beginning to set. Maria cried as she looked at the compass in her hands. They were far away from home.
"This wasn't the plan" she whispered to herself and sighed. She paddled faster, her heart racing as the sea's current increased.
Maria what's happening a little voice from behind spoke softly but fear could be found in it. Maria felt chills run down her spines "oh no! He's awake", she murmured to herself. "Umm don't worry we'll get home safely okay"! George nodded and immediately water splashed into their boat and the boat began to sink.
Little George had to scoop out the water while his sister controlled the boat. At this point they were both crying and George began to blame her for taking him along with her to sail.
"I didn't expect this George so don't blame me, I'm sorry I didn't listen to mom and took you along but I never knew the sea was gonna rage and be super mad at me. I promise nothing would happen to you" she sobbed and he felt the pain in her voice and hugged her.
Suddenly a phone rang in the boat, Maria was surprised because in all her life of sailing the boat she's never seen a phone nor heard it ring in the boat. It kept ringing and George had to run to the deck to get it.
"Hello" he spoke with a shaky voice, "hey George where are you guys? Where are you? She paused for a while then continued "The sea is raging and we're looking for you both please I hope you're both fine, please stay put mommy and daddy is coming to get you two okay! She spoke so fast and George just nodded and tears ran down his cheeks.
"Please hurry mom we're sinking" is all he could say. "There's a blue can down the dock of that boat, get it, open it,take out the gun and shoot it in the air so we can find you".
He did as was told and of course, his parents were closer than he thought. They found them and helped them out of the sinking boat. George was happy to be in the arms of his mother again and Maria felt so guilty as she curled herself up shivering.
The storm subsided and they got home safely. The moment they got into the house, Maria's dad spoke. "You're grounded for a month, no pleading" he stormed out of her presence in anger and she turned to look at her mom who turned her face away and carried George to go clean him up and keep him warm.
Maria ran to her room and cried even more. She knew she was guilty but she felt she didn't deserve the punishment.
Wonderful Story with lots of lessons to learn.
