The Brighter Side of The Moon

the photo was taken by me, from somewhere in Bangladesh, on the 10th of October 2022.

"The Moon" has to be one of my absolute favorite things that nature has blessed us with. I mean when I was younger, I could spend hours just looking at this small ball of sunshine, and never get bored of it. I remember I'd even climb trees and go to our roof, or get to a field with less light pollution if I got the chance to, sit or lie down there, and just look at the moon. I'd be distracted with shooting stars and other stuff from time to time while continuously looking at tge sky, but the focus never really moved from the naturally unreal beauty moon presented me with.

We didn’t have smartphones back then. Cameras weren’t that common among folks either to point and shoot the moon. Instead, what was very common back then is the mighty load-shedding; which happened almost every night, giving us more chances to just sit, relax with out people, and enjoy the moonlit nights; more than we can afford these days.

Nowadays we can't afford that luxury. The pseudo busy lives we live, the short attention spans we've been cursed with, the obsession with social media, the restlessness in our unnecessarily monotonous lives, all these and more unimportant stuff together somehow made it impossible for us to take an actual break for a few moments, and just look at the moon for the sole purpose of, looking at it, seeing it, seeing her, in all her breathtaking glory.

I miss that version of me, I miss myself from back then and feel gulty that I just lost that guy with time. So now, even among all the chaos surrounding me, I try; or at least try to make an effort, to give myself a chance from time to time to relive those luxurious moments once more, when life used to be simple enough for me to forget everything else without any second thoughts, and witness the brighter side of the moon with the sole purpose of, purposelessness.

The most memorable thing about this load-shedding scenario would be the late night load-shedding play sessions when I was a kid. Sometimes we'd even have the mood shining bright from up above, providing an adequate amount of light, just enough to spot someone's movement. The prefect setup for a bit of hide and seek. Whether it be the city streets or our village yard; the combination of load-shedding, a bright and beautiful moon and a bit of hide and seek was absolutely priceless back then.

Yes, these days we are annoyed when there's even a 5 minute delay in any form, whether it be the electricity or our internet connection. We've become so "busy" and impatient, so used to this "tech dependent" lifestyle, that even a bit of change or the slightest inconvenience brings out the worst from inside of us.

I really, really wonder at times if I'm actually, if I'm truly happy with how convenient and comfortable life has become with time.
