House of The Dragon : Episode 1 | The Heirs of the Dragon

In the past 10 years, nothing in films or TV has been so significantly impactful in pop culture as Game of Thrones has been. With the amount of buzz and posts and all kinds of threads it created on the internet and the number of controversies and debates it issued it social media and blogs, one cannot deny that this has been one of the most incredible TV shows that have ever emerged in popular TV. Every year it was released and people went out and talked and discussed theories about the episodes and speculated how will the next season is going to go and how it would end its run and bam the last season hits. That was painful but for such a hugely impactful show it went extremely downhill during the final season and especially in the final episode and how it ended. From being the topic of conversation on every occasion its existence disappeared from people's mouths in a span of the night because of that disastrous and controversial ending. But the parent company decided to produce a prequel show from the Game of Thrones universe and everyone like me was skeptical because of obvious reasons when the first time we heard. But the pilot aired and shamelessly everyone turned on the tv screen for it and was glad we did.

So this prequel show is based on the book fire and blood which R R Martin wrote in 2020. It depicts the Targaryen family's history in Westeros since Aegon the Conqueror claimed its throne after fleeing from Valeriya till the battle in the trident issued by Robert's Rebellion. The book is full of fantastic stories and a saga of incredibly powerful characters and bloody stories. But the show starts at the peak of the reign of the Targareyns, during the end of King Jaherys reign when he was about to declare his heir to the throne.

Despite having a bitter taste after the game of thrones finale upon knowing that the show has no collaboration with DB Weiss and David Benioff one can surely get their hopes up and upon watching the premiere I can ensure that this is a great tv pilot. Everything that made Game of Thrones successful and such a complex show can be seen here in the show too. It has a political storyline, morally grey and complex characters, a ground set for the coming blaze, violence, nudity, and more dragons. Even though it is a dragon-heavy show rather than Game of thrones the political plotline seems to be the main thing here and the players are all in full glory to make some move.

The production of this show is particularly eye-catching. The production of Game of Thrones was always top notch and this time they did the same thing again with a bigger scope. You can take a look at this episode and can confirm that no other fantasy show nearly has this kinda gorgeous medieval-era fantasy production of this quality. The costume and makeup all made a perfect ambiance from page to screen for this one.

And when it goes to casting pretty much everyone in the pilot made their mark in just about an hour. The biggest impression left on me was Daemon Targaryen played by Matt Smith who is the brother of King Viserys Targaryen. Ambitious, motivation driven, angry, and cunning all were there for him to make a great character. And now that conflict was brawling he was ready for the game. And there was our main protagonist, Rhaenyra Targaryen who reminded us of young Danerys but still set her aside for her Queen-like mannerism and persona. By the end of the episode it was clear the force she will become in the forthcoming episodes. And by the looks of it, the Hightowers will create quite the fuzz in the power play dynamics in Westeros. In conclusion, this was a fantastic pilot and a treat for the eyes for Game of Thrones fans. Welcome back, everyone.
