Eyes: a blessing...

in BDCommunity3 years ago

I have started to use eye glasses since I was in class nine. After that I couldn't recall a day when I didn't use prescribed glass to see everything clearly. I know how it feels not being able to see the color of the world without glasses. Sometimes it feels like a burden of life as we have face problems maintaining the glass. But yet I know that I am blessed with eye-sight at least. Alhamdulillah, for this. So this is why today I want to write something on eye-sight and how can we protect it.

Have you ever seen a full rainbow and wondered how beautiful it is? Have you ever looked at a beautiful landscape and pondered what a great artist God must be? Have you ever caught a glimpse of your loved ones getting into mischiefs and smiled, thinking to yourself, "How can someone be so beautiful?" If the answer is yes, you are lucky, lucky enough to see the beautiful intricate details of this world with your own eyes. However, we do not always feel grateful for the blessings that we have in our lives.

Sight is perhaps the single most important blessing that we have in our lives. This makes the preservation of our eyes a must-do for everybody, but we rarely care about them. According to WHO, at least a billion people globally suffer from different eyesight problems like myopia or hypermetropia. Some are genetic, some are due to excessive pressure on the eyes. Also, about 750,000 people in Bangladesh are suffering from blindness while approximately 253 million people in the world live with moderate to severe vision impairment. During the pandemic, eyesight problems have skyrocketed. Students complaining about headaches and soreness in their eyes have gone up exponentially more as the classes have moved to the online medium. The same thing happened with the office workers.

Even though the world is slowly moving back to normal, we can not continue to ignore our eye health. There are some steps we can follow to make sure our eyes are healthy.

  1. We should not use any kind of screen for more than an hour straight.
  2. We should take gaps in between reading or working to rest our eyes and look at greenery or simply close them.
  3. Blue light glass is a good way of stopping the harmful blue light that computer screens emit, or we can use the reading mode to block it partially.
  4. Regular eye checkups should be normalized even though you do not feel the need. It does not hurt to be prepared beforehand.
  5. We must eat food that is healthy for our vision, not having enough nutritious food can be a cause for loss of sight or problems in vision.

While I was writing this piece, I felt this profound gratefulness of being able to perceive the world with all its beauty, a boon that not everybody is lucky to have. So I want all of you to be grateful for this wonderful gift that we have and make sure to preserve it no matter what. Don’t forget, the world is beautiful only when you are able to see it. Don’t forget to love your eyes, as you see your love through them.

I used to wear glasses in class 9/10; can't remember. Used only 3-4 months and thought the problem is gone only to realise in recent years my eyesight is way too poor in the right one.

Looking at greenery items helps. It's also mentioned in our Al-Quran.

Yes, I was also once told by a teacher to look at the greenery for at least 15 to 20 minutes of a day. But it's my fault that I couldn't follow his suggestion. I still regret it. However now I try to look at greenery as my as I can.
For you, I want to say please, go for an eye check up and do as doctor's prescription. From my experience I will say, the problem of eye-sight must go sought day by day if we ignore to take care of it. Using glass sometimes helps eyesight not to get poorer.
Thanks for stopping by :)

That's my plan but not sure when I will execute. 😔
