How To Make A Crochet Purse In Less Than An Hour.

in DIYHub4 hours ago

For as long as I can remember, I've gotten good remarks on my regular purses whenever I bring them out in public and this in itself is a beautiful thing. Since I made a decision to wear more of my crochet hand made items, I decided to make myself a not-so-regular purse.

Going through my mini yarn cupboard, I found a grey coloured yarn that I bought a few months back just for the fun of it. I didn't know what I would use the yarn for but I was a hundred percent certain that something would come up and indeed something came up.

I have been doing a lot of reading recently courtesy of the exams I'm currently writing but all work and no play make Jack a..? Dull boy. After spending hours on my books, I usually find something to help me destress be it a movie, music, crafts, etc.The thing I chose today was a crochet project.

Behind the scenes.

The amazing part about this project was the fact that I made it from start to finish in under an hour; while timing myself of course. Before starting, I did a little calculation on the length and width of the purse. I wanted it wide enough to hold a pencil and tall enough to fit my mobile device. With these calculations, I got to work.

Procedures

I would like to start by saying that I used only half double crochet stitches and single crochet stitches in the course of this project.

First, I made a chain of thirty six, ensuring that my initial chains end in an odd number. This is because the last chain would be used as the turning chain.

After making the chains, I went ahead to make a row of half double crochet stitches to the very end of the initial chain. Afterwards, I chained one, turned my work and started yet another row of half double crochet stitches but this time, in the back loops only. I love using the back loop only technique whenever I make crochet accessories.

For the next thirty rows, I pretty much repeat the same pattern. It is advisable to repeat this pattern till your desired number of rows are obtained and by number of rows, I mean the height of the bag.

For the next four rows, rows 30–34, I made a decrease by the end of each row in order to derive the curved edges. To make this decrease, I made two half double crochet stitches together(hdc two together) on both ends of each row. By the 34th row, I was pleased with the curves and so I fastened off and cut off my yarn.

The next thing I did was to close up the sides of the purse but before doing this, I used my stitch markers to mark off where the body of the purse would end and where the cover would begin. After that, I went ahead to join the sides using single crochet stitches. To give the purse a neater look, I went round all the uncoupled edges using single crochet stitches.

The next thing I did was make the ropes for the purse. I didn't want to use zippers or buttons as fasteners for this purse so I turned to the only other option, ropes. For the ropes, I made a chain of thirty and twenty five for the upper and lower ropes respectively. Next, I made a row of half double crochet stitches and the ropes were ready to be attached.

I attached the ropes to the body of the purse and my crochet purse was ready to be used. First off, I was thrilled by the fact that I was able to pull this off in less than an hour. Second, I'm glad I was able to use my free time for something productive.

In the meantime, what do you think of this crochet project? Would you use this crochet purse?
