I want to tell you that a few days ago, my husband and his sisters found a leather briefcase that belonged to their late father among some stored items. Having been stored for several years, it was covered in mold and visibly dried out.
Since it was an object with significant emotional weight, I decided to recondition it by removing the mold and restoring its shine.
Here I share with you the step-by-step process, which is easy but requires a lot of detail and care.
Materials used:
Pieces of soft cloth.
Cotton.
Alcohol.
Vaseline.
Procedure:
Step 1.
Using a piece of soft cloth, I carefully rubbed the areas that had mold; I did this step outdoors to prevent the spores from spreading inside the house.
Step 2.
To completely remove the mold, use cotton wool soaked in alcohol and rub in circular motions over the entire surface, focusing on the affected areas.
Once this step was complete, I placed it in the covered patio, where it was left to air for approximately 2 hours.
Step 3.
For the reconditioning process, I did a test on a small area to make sure that the petroleum jelly did not darken the leather.
I did this step using cotton wool with a small amount of petroleum jelly, spreading it gently over the leather, paying special attention to the driest areas.
I finished by gently rubbing with a cloth to make sure there were no residues left and to give it more shine.
Although I had doubts about using petroleum jelly on this wallet, the result was quite satisfactory, as the leather absorbs it very well, restoring its shine and leaving no greasy feeling or residue.
Truthfully, I am pleased to have restored the appearance and functionality of a wallet with great sentimental value.

Para eliminar completamente el moho, use algodón con alcohol frotando con movimientos circulares por toda la superficie, principalmente en las zonas afectadas.
Al culminar este paso, la coloqué en el patio bajo techo, donde se ventilara por espacio de 2 horas aproximadamente.
Paso 3.
Para el proceso de reacondicionamiento, hice una prueba en un pequeño espacio para asegurarme de que la vaselina no oscurecía el cuero.
Este paso lo hice utilizando algodón con un mínimo de vaselina, extendiendo suavemente por el cuero, prestando atención especialmente a las zonas más resecas.
Finalicé frotando suavemente con un paño para asegurarme de que no quedaran restos y además darle más brillo.
Aunque tenía dudas en usar la vaselina en esta cartera, el resultado fue bastante satisfactorio, ya que el cuero la absorbe muy bien, devuelve su brillo y no queda sensación grasosa ni residuos.
La verdad, estoy satisfecha por haber devuelto el aspecto y funcionalidad a una cartera con mucho valor sentimental.
