Sorry, in that you can see all the mess and madness.
I got up this morning at 5 am, earlier than normal, dunno why.
I showered, did a rough braid on me hayer
Did my meds, my coughee and banana bread, then undid me hayer
A friend asked me what conditioner was I using 🤓
6 months ago, I wasn't using ANY, so this is an improvement
Then since I was working on the PC, I went for my "Librarian" look
When it went above freezing, I went outside, bundled up well except for my hands.
Can't use a camera well with glubs. Therefore I didn't last but two photos worth
♫♪BLINDED by the light♫♪
What has all this to do with a bedroom makeover you ask?
I went to Goodwill (it's a thrift store, for those who don't know) and found a new/used desk for my studio, a set of curtains (4 panels, 2 windows worth) and a Salt Lamp, (that didn't work)
I had already purchased the curtain rods/hardware, so after I thawed out, I set about getting these things installed.
So without further ado. The before and after pics
On the left is right after the last redux, where I put the maps on the walls. Now, I have blue, lined panels.
(I'm still getting the swag adjusted, bothers me when they aren't the same)
This was a job too, if I don't mind telling you. Whoever built that closet enclosure put it RIGHT up against the window jamb/molding on the left.
Then, I had two more blue curtain panels left, SOOOO...
The back door, before and after
Remember the "Salt Lamp?" it didn't work.
Last night I took it apart, found that the dimmer in the cord was bad, at least I was pretty sure that was it
So after I got the curtains up, I went to look for some curtain pulls or something, and I remembered there was a small TV repair shop next to the Sewing Machine shop where I bought my new/old sewing machine
Oh Yeah! I forgot to mention that!
I picked this ↑up yesterday↑ that was when I noticed the repair shop.
They guy spent about 20 minutes and fixed my lamp, no cost.
I LOVE living in a small town.
So now I have a real (I liked it to make sure it is real salt) Himalayan Salt Lamp, which may or may not have health or spiritual properties/benefits, and I got it for $4.99 USD
Shew! When I got all that done, I was famished! I modified the leftover yellow rice (added a can of tomatoes and a can of Green chilis) sliced up the leftover steak, and added that to a green lettuce and tomato salad, with homemade vinaigrette dressing, with Balsamic Vinegar and good Olive oil.
I just took this outta da ubbin
So I thinks I'll be sleeping good tonight.
Oh Yeah! 🍷
Nothing like a glass of watered wine, with Tonic Water for sparkle.

Love the make over... those rock lamps are cool. We have two of them, and I like that you can dim them... gives a groovy vibe.
I'm quite familiar with Good Will shops. But around here, the prices are redonkulus!! You're better off going and buying things brand new; sign of the times I guess.
Love that sewing machine... does it work? And the best part, to me, was the fellow fixing your lamp... for free. Can't find that anymore. Great #thoughtfuldailypost brother.

Good Morning Wes, did you buy them new? (the lamps) just wondering how much they cost, since I got this one for such a steal.
I'm not as keen on GW anymore, since I discovered that the majority of money donated or gained from sales goes to the salaries of the CEO's and such.
If the Salvation Army Thrift store were closer, I probably wouldn't go to GW much, the Sallie has much higher caliber items, but FAR less volume.
SA store prices have tended higher than GW since I discovered it, and now both are inching higher, yes... sign of the times :(
I haven't tried the Sewing machine yet, but the man in the store assures me that it does and gave me a 90 day warranty.
Relatively simple machine, so I hope to get a lot of use outta it.
Good people do things for free, when they can and it doesn't cost them anything, or just because.
Happy Sunday! Love you @wesphilbin
Hello to you,
I am the first time here, came through futureminds comment and was looking in awe at your "new" sewing machine, which I would buy right away! It's such a nice piece of machine. What do you sow with it?
What brand is it and from which year, can you tell me?
I also did not know about the "DIYHub" tag, is it something which is around for quite a time? I used "DIY" as a tag, so far. Excuse my many questions.
What I liked about your post is the lightness and the feeling that you enjoy the things you use in a certain manner. For me, it's the same - I love my (thrifted) things and felt reminded of some good days where I had the opportunity to visit some thrift stores in CAL (years ago). I envy you living in a small town.
Greet your neighbors from a German woman :)
Why what a pleasant surprise @erh.germany, thank you for the comment.
The machine is a Kenmore (Sears) but I'm told it was made in Japan by the White sewing machine company (I think they were partners with Singer? at one time)
Mama had a Singer when I was small, and I grew up tinkering with it; wouldn't call myself a sewer by any means, but I am tired of asking others to hem my pants etc... those curtains in my bedroom (the magenta ones) need lining, so I have projects ahead of me
I do not know how long the DIYHub community has been around, I haven't known about it but about 5 months?

Until about 2 yrs ago when I got Disability through the military, I was quite low income, so I did without, or shopped at thrift stores.
Frugality became a habit, and not that I DO have a moderate income, I make it stretch.
Mableton isn't really a town per se, that may change soon, as there is a vote upcoming for "Cityhood" (I am against it myself)
This is a suburb of Atlanta Ga, so it is like a small town surrounded by city.
This is Mableton, my house is marked in red
Here it is in relation to Hotlanta
So greetings from a Georgia Country boy
Hey, thank you for providing me with a map, so I can see where you are located. Atlanta was mentioned in the context of having a huge casino, when I was in CAL. Otherwise, I know nothing about the area. Compared to it, your village looks idyllic.
I don't know whether Singer and the Japanese production company partnered with each other. My mother used to sew with a treadle machine that is a bit older than your model. I forgot the brand. We now use it as a coffee table/station at my brothers house.
I am also living kind of a frugal live, I like it to improvise and make something out of "nothing" :) Scarcity can be quite nice if it's self chosen and not forced upon one.
For making hems for pants or curtains you certainly will do a fine job. Over time I found out that I like it better to sew hems by hand, it gives a nicer and more clean finish for my taste. It takes longer but I use it as a meditative form of getting things done (in slow motion).
Bye from the northern part of Germany!
Hi and good morning @erh.germany, I don't know of any Casino's IN Atlanta (and I think I would have heard by now if there were) but there are at least two within an hours drive of here, in S Carolina and Alabama.
We also used to have a treadle machine, and I played around with it a lot until the leather belt broke, (which them made an excellent cat plaything; I drove my cat bonkers with that thing ha ha ha)
I really don't have the patience to properly sew by hand. I quickly get tired of it and start doing "whip stitches" which do the job for a while but ain't at all perty, although I can easily see how it would be meditative and calming for most people
Hey Jerry,
The home is looking great, I love what you've been doing with the place. I think you have above average skills in the department of making the home look nice and also I think you really do have this super cool librarian look going on, and your hair is something to brag about. I can hardly get mine half of that length hahaha.
Those sea salt lamps are cool, I've known some people in the past who had them. That article about the benefits and how to determine if they are real is really helpful and informative as well, thank you for sharing.
That sewing machine and table is super cool. Would it be considered vintage? It certainly looks vintage to me and is in nice shape by the looks of it.
I always love doing something new to my living space. Feels good, doesn't it?
Good Will is a Good Place.
I have a salt lamp too. I don't know if it does anything good either, but I love it's warm glow.
G'morning @jacey.boldart, growing up, I used to rearrange furniture in rooms just for da halibut, after a while, with just the same pieces, there are only so many things you can do.
It's different here tho, as this is all new in that it is new to me. I didn't rearrange anything THIS time.
These windows on either side of the computer desk face east, so the sunrise is problematic; in Winter with shorter days, I NEED that sunlight to help battle the SADD, but then in Winter, the angle of the sun is such that on the right side, the sun comes through the slats on the blinds until about 10 am.
I've been half assed looking for curtains, and when I found these (4 panels for $9.99) my concern was their length; trying to measure them lying on my bed was difficult, so I wasn't sure if I were going to have to cut them... they just seemed TOO LONG, but once I got up the ladder and held on up there, it was JUST RIGHT!.
I could have (some would say Should Have) put all 4 panels in the two windows as they were meant, but methinks this will serve me better
I had to get up and turn down my lamp once (being a new thing in my dark room) but I think it will be a good counter point to the blue light of the computer screen
