Almost a week had passed since my last post…, which is a longest break of this year.
Writing every single day may be unrealistic, but writing regularly is very important to me. So I wanted to leave a small footprint. When I do, my thoughts start flowing again and it becomes easier to keep writing. Today, I decided to write about things I’ve made recently, together with some photos 😊
Wooden doll
The photo at the top shows a small wooden doll my daughter and I made using wooden parts we picked up in Berlin, where we stayed shortly before Christmas. We found them at a stand where you could fill a bag with wooden pieces for 5 EUR. It could be used as a Christmas tree decoration or something similar.
This year, I had many opportunities to make things and participate in events together with my daughter. It might be a bit early to say, but we’ve already been talking about how it could be fun to host a Christmas decoration workshop next year. Most of all, I’m happy she enjoyed making with me and others.
Christmas Linzer Torte
Every year, I bake a Linzer Torte as our Christmas cake, and this year was no exception. On the 24th, shops close early, so I bought the ingredients in Berlin, carried them home, and baked it quickly. Decorating the dough cut with cookie cutters together with my daughter is a yearly tradition for us. Unfortunately, I only have photos of it half eaten 💦
Since it’s Christmas, I also whipped fresh cream to serve alongside it. This winter has been colder than usual, with temperatures below freezing, and in that weather, the nutty, spiced Linzer Torte tastes even better.
Japanese Shimenawa
Around this time last week, I participated in an art event at Japanisches Haus, a cultural space related to Japanese culture. I made Shimenawa decorations using materials available in Germany—something I had personally wanted for years and want to make my own a long time. I was very happy that they were well received.
(A shimenawa is a traditional Japanese new year's wreath, usually made from straw, that marks a purified or space to welcome gods.)
Using the leftover materials, I made one for myself as well. Since I plan to hang it in the kitchen, where I bake bread daily, I added a pretzel, hoping the bread gods might visit my kitchen.
So even though my work-related workshops finished earlier this month, I’ve been continuing to make things day by day. I’m sure more will take shape soon, and I hope to keep sharing them here on Hive Blog as part of continuing this diary.

気づいたら前回書いてから一週間近く・・・！日々書くのは無理だとしても、定期的に書くことは私にとってはとても大事なことで、小さな足跡を残そうと思いました。そうすると、また考えが出てきて書き続けられるので。というわけで、最近作ったものについて写真とともに書こうと思います。
木の人形
冒頭の写真は、クリスマス前に滞在したベルリンで木製のパーツの詰め放題でゲットしたパーツを使って、子供と作ったお人形です。クリスマスツリーのデコレーションなどに使えそうです。今年は子供と一緒にものづくりをしたりイベントに参加したりする機会がたくさんあり、気が早い話ですが、来年はクリスマスデコレーションを作るワークショップをしてもいいねなんて話しています。楽しんでくれたようで何よりです。
クリスマスのリンツァートルテ
毎年クリスマスケーキとして焼いているリンツァートルテを今年も焼きました。24日は午後早くにお店が閉まってしまうので、ベルリンで材料を買って担いで帰ってきて、ぱぱぱっと！クッキー型で抜いた生地を子供と飾るのは毎年恒例です。食べかけの写真しかありませんでした💦
クリスマスということで、生クリームもホイップして添えました。今年の冬は例年よりも寒くてマイナス気温。そんな中ナッツとスパイスが効いたリンツァートルテがいっそうおいしいです。
ドイツの材料で作る日本のしめ縄飾り
先週の今頃は、日本の家という文化施設のアートイベントに参加しました。長らく自分自身がほしくて作ってみたいと思っていたしめ縄飾りをドイツで手に入る材料で作ったら好評でとてもうれしかったです。
余った材料で私の分も作りました。私はキッチンに飾る予定だったので、パンの神様が来てくれるといいなとプレッツェルつきにしました。
そんなこんなで、今月上旬には仕事のワークショップは終わったというのに、日々作り続けています。まだまだいろいろできあがってくると思うので、日記継続もかねてHive Blogでシェアできたらと思います。
