Welcome friends of #Hive and my dear #Jewelry community in this continuation of my #Gems and #Minerals collection I decided to make a section for each individual Gem as I have many photos and content to show in a single Post, also I think it would be better to show my collection in this way to deepen about each mineral and show the varieties of each one if I have them available.
Que son las Gemas o Piedras Preciosas?
What are gemstones?
According to WikipediaA gemstone, also called a precious stone, is a rock, mineral, glass or organic product of natural origin, which when cut or polished can be used in the manufacture of jewelry or artistic objects. They are mineral gemstones such as ruby, diamond, emerald, sapphire; semi-precious gemstones such as spinel, alexandrite, tanzanite or garnet; natural glass such as obsidian; rocks such as malachite, lapis lazuli or onyx; fossil products of organic origin such as jet or amber; and biogenic products such as pearls (produced by an oyster) or coral (formed by the calcareous secretion of small marine polyps).
In the previous Post I had described what is the Mohs hardness scale which in a way is important to classify gems and minerals.

Beryl Group

Beryl exhibits conchoidal fracture, has a hardness of 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale and a relative y of 2.63-2.80.
La Esmeralda
The Emerald
It is the green variety of Beryl, its green color is given by chromium or sometimes vanadium, Its main exploitation site is Colombia where the best emeralds in the world and 50% of the world's population come from.
The piece shown in the photo is an emerald muralla from the mines of Muzo Colombia, although it is not my property since it belongs to my master, he allowed me the copy, I have some fragments that are personal.
What is an emerald wall?
It is nothing more than a non-crystallized emerald of low quality, they are much more abundant than the gem quality ones but they are still beautiful for handicraft works, they tend to be more accessible because of their price, not as high as the quality crystalline emeralds.
These fragments come from the mines of Muzo, Colombia.
This small specimen is a triple AAA Emerald, it is rare to find specimens of this quality, at first it was believed to be a laboratory Emerald but later it was proven that if it was natural and I was able to sell it.
At first glance you could say that an Emerald is beautiful and of high quality but it must be carefully checked with a jeweler's loupe of at least 10x magnification to see internally the stone and its impurities, determine its degree of transparency, if it has internal fracture, are key factors in the price of an Emerald.
They may look like a lot but their value is not so much mostly because of the size, as shown in the photo each one could be thinking a few fractions of grams but nothing like their perfect green color.
The larger the size of the stone, the higher the value of the stone, but that doesn't take away from how beautiful emeralds can be in small cuts!
Emeralds are usually faceted in square or rectangular cut to highlight its color, the best quality ones are usually in drop or rectangular cut as I have already mentioned.
The value of an emerald is determined by the intensity of its color, its transparency and its carat weight, it is important to take these factors into account when selling or buying emeralds.
This is one of the best emerald pieces I have ever had in my hands as it is an AA Oil Drop Emerald, although it was not mine but my master's, it was valued at over a thousand dollars but unfortunately it was sold by emergency at a fraction of its true price, it was complicated to sell it as the main buyer did not want to acquire it for unknown reasons .
When it was purchased there was no idea of its real value and it was set in a sterling silver ring with two zirconias, actually it had been purchased for the silver ring, but then it was the surprise for the type of emerald.
It is worth mentioning that most of the emeralds in this post were sold, not all were my property as well as the photos as they are my teacher Wencel Daniel Lopez, special thanks to him for lending me the photos and for the teachings on gemstones, soon I will be showing the other variants of Beryl if I have the possibility of acquiring them, thank you very much for your attention.
