The job of bringing new people to Hive is not easy. When you talked about explaining Hive to them, it reminded me of how complicated it is to invite people and they can't (or simply can't) adapt to our beloved Hive. I've invited about 10 people, if I'm not mistaken, and none of them stayed.
It's really a challenge to be their teacher, lol.
Now, one thing caught my attention. You wrote at the end of your post that you're open to new partnerships. What would that partnership be like? What exactly do you expect from a partnership? Maybe we can talk about this in more detail, together with my friends @michupa and @vempromundo. We're leading HiveBR (Hive Brazil) with a small team, some Brazilians who are very focused on helping the community grow. However, we also face many problems.
One of these problems is the high number of Brazilians who drop out. There used to be a lot of us, but today things have kind of stagnated. Despite calling and trying... few people stay... Do you think we could help your projects in some way and at the same time, we could improve something in ours?
Anyway, a big hug and keep on fighting, I know that one day victory will come for all of us!
Have you asked them what was challenging about Hive and their expectations towards it? Maybe that'll help narrow down their interest and you can pin point some solutions to them that works.
Who were your target audience in approaching hive?
Retention is a challenging part of this whole process. I've been working on @lovesniper along with the other team members but it's all mostly voluntary. I can't speak much with data because there's no fixed analysis on that which I honestly should because it's another step of all this. Just based on my experience, those who post consistently and engage typically thrive well in the community but it's also really coming down to their interest.
Another tricky part I've found is their expectations towards this place. Back in the day, I saw a lot of photographers from a certain country getting so highly rewarded then left 😂 this isn't something that I personally want and I am sure a lot of people here agreed as well.
I'd think partnership in your offer would work pre-events. Think about organizing more webinar on how to thrive on hive and such. Make it internationally (cross-experience) type of events. Invite people who has been here long enough and what makes them stick to this place.
Can you believe that my biggest complaint has always been writing the posts! The long ones in this case, that was the biggest complaint that it's a lot of work and little return, I never really thought that, I always ran after it, made some connections and so on I went and built my career.
But I confess that I never asked anything kkkk, I always taught everything and helped in everything I could, even so people don't adapt very well, unfortunately that's it. Retaining new users at Hive is complicated, so now the new members we get, I've been introducing snaps, threads or liketu, which help to keep the user with these quick actions that simulate web2 a lot!
It'll help if you also ask them what they likes. You never know some of them might like long form content others short from content. Try to be in their position and find out their interest, maybe that'll help them coming back to hive and see this place as something new 😊
I see, I hadn't looked at it that way, I really missed asking what they preferred, this or that. It's great to exchange ideas about onboarding, it makes total sense to me. A different view from what I'm used to kkkk 😄
I brought hundreds of people to Hive. Unfortunately after they saw that I was getting everything downvoted for no reason they all quit. There was nothing I could do to convince them to come back.
I imagine that with the DVs, many people who still don't understand 100% how the hive works might get scared and stop. The ones I've called simply stop because they say that "writing is complicated", so it's really hard haha
Yeah. It’s pretty disheartening for some people to work for many hours to write a long post and have it downvoted to zero on day 7 …. For no reason at all. This happens often now on Hive.
I agree with you, this is really bad.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experiences—it’s true, bringing new people to Hive and keeping them engaged is no easy feat. Many of us face similar challenges when trying to build local communities. In terms of partnership, I’m envisioning something that involves collaborating on content, offering training sessions, and maybe even sharing promotional tools or resources that can help attract and retain new members. It would be great to work with you, @michupa, and @vempromundo, alongside the HiveBR team, to brainstorm solutions to these issues we’re all experiencing.
One idea could be to explore topics that appeal to broader audiences. For example, we could offer tutorials on new, trending topics, like casino portugal https://bacanaplaycasino.net/ related content, which often garners a lot of attention. This might capture the interest of people who enjoy the excitement of casinos and sports betting, drawing them into the community.
