A few weeks ago, we had our second Newbies meeting on discord, and we couldn't progress smoothly as a result of a terrible network connection. We all agreed to send in our questions so our leader, @starstrings01 would answer them. A video was created with those answers made available. Here are the lessons I gained from each answered question.
Which Dapps do you use and why?
He loves peakd and the way it looks and I do too. All the benefits he listed, I have been privileged to use almost all of them.
- With peakd, you can track your favorite author. You can see your feed. You can go through the tools section and see your resource credit and the rewards of your voting power.
- You can stake hive 2 layer tokens for your wallet. You don't need to go through the tokens frontend to stake, it's possible to do that using peakd; hive engine wallet tab.
Most importantly, proofoffbrain and leofinance interface charges no fee for using their frontend for comments and posting.
Now I have a question here, does peakd charge us for posts and comments?
How do you see Hive now compared to when it was still steem? how much has the platform changed as a new user?
Things have become easy for Newbies compared to when @starstrings01 joined hive. And this is made possible by the advent of initiatives, ranging from the OCD, hive onboarders, acidyo, etc.
Source
Initially, Newbies get frustrated and discouraged when their posts are not getting rewarded, but the various initiatives have changed the dynamics.
Again, he mentioned, the introduction of community has changed a lot of things too. Back then, it was just tags, and getting lost as a newbie then was inevitable. Hive is still complex but it's a little simpler and easier. You can find contents you love easily and digest it, with your unique niche, you find a community you love and evolve.
What are the benefits of using Peakd?
Peakd has lots of features as discussed above, you can choose how you want to read your articles. You can see the payout, votes, advanced settings, etc.
My thoughts on the benefits of peakd. I love peakd because I can decide what I want to see. If I want to read posts published by those I am following, I click the following button.
If I want to view posts published in the different communities I subscribed for, I do the same.
I am yet to create my favorite lists, so that point is often empty whenever I click on it.
At the same time, peakd gives me the advantage of filtering what I read. For instance, I can exclude reblogs when I am on my following feed. I can exclude those I have already read and voted for as well. It makes navigating on hive easy for me.
Under the tool section, you can see how you vote and how you are voted. You can also see activities.
I didn't understand the part where you can send passwords to new on borders, I hope @starstrings01 will explain.
What are the benefits of using Ecency?
Ecency is a good mobile app, it has a good UI. It is easy to publish. They give rewards for engaging using the app. They give ecency points which you can use to boost and promote your posts.
My thoughts on ecency. I have had the privilege of using ecency points to boost my post. There was this week I had a lucky number of rewards from the engagement league, and I was rewarded with ecency points.
I tried using the point to either promote or boost my post. I got error messages.
I couldn't understand why, I thought, maybe I copied the wrong links. So I used the same link address from different frontend to see if any will work. This means I copied my post link from peaked, hive.blog, and ecency, respectively. I still got the error message.
One day, I saw someone complain about not always receiving a boost on his posts and how his points are often returned, I went in and lay my complaints too.
@ecency came to my rescue, and once I tried the boost again. It worked.
All I needed to do was wait for the already programmed script to make post suggestions for me and I'll choose one. Or, manually type the post I want to boost, separating each word with a dash, and I am good to go.
There are two other things I learned in the course of boosting my posts with ecency points. One, they reward valuable and quality content. Two, I tried boosting a post that was close to payout, and it was declined. That day, I guessed that it's against the rules of the community to vote on posts that are due for payout. I am not sure, I hope someone will clarify this for me, though, thanks.
What are the benefits of using Hive.blog?
@starstrings01 uses his hive.blog to trade his HBD to hive. I haven't done that before. I just click on market using peakd and it takes me to hive.blog.
You can recover your keys using your master key, only with hive.blog. Forget password is also through hive.blog. I had no idea we can do that, thanks for the update. He uses it to comment on trending posts as well.
What is 3speak?
3 speaks allows you to share video content and it will still show on Peakd. It's just another interface of hive where you can upload videos. They reward good video content, massively
What are the benefits of using 3speak?
The benefits are that good video contents get their posts curated by the 3 speaks accounts.
Is there a curation angel that votes for quality videos?
Yes, there are curation angels who check out video content on 3speaks.
How many videos you must make to get noticed?
It's not about the quantity, quality matters if you want to be noticed. However, engagement beats the mark. When you engage with others, it brings more eyes to your posts. One of them will be interested in the kind of video content you publish. With that, you gain more visibility for your videos.
What is the best length for a video to get the maximum of the votes?
Preferably more than a minute, it's not about quantity as earlier discussed, quality matters.
Are videos made like presentation and human voice successful?
Just make your content original no matter the voice you are using.
Is it hard to become a vlogger?
As long as you put your mind to something, you can accomplish anything. All you have to do is remain dedicated and consistent. So, no, it's not difficult.
Everything sounds great, now how to make an account and run it?
You can create an account through hive on board, account creation, leofinance, 3speaks, ecency, etc. You should begin your post with an introductory post, even though it's not compulsory, it's important. You will need resource credit to publish, engage, do other things. So, the author who invited you should give you a few delegations to get you started. Then subscribe to communities, you can connect with, engage in those communities to gain visibility.

Hey @normanfenton this is a pretty good summary of the various front ends here on Hive. Worth looking at!
Thanks!
Thanks for recommending my post for other readers, sir, I appreciate it.
👍
Hi @iskafan , I found your post while writing mine. This is beautiful and there is alot to learn from. By the way I think you've graduated lol
Hahahaha, graduation?? 😳 🤣🤣🤣
You are such a joker 😅😅
Thank you very much sweetheart. I appreciate you reading through.
Excellent. Well written. I appreciate you making the first entry to this task. Thanks for listening to the video and making up a nice post.
Thank you sir for the lessons you shared in the question and answer section, I learned a lot. I did have questions. I'll extract them for you.
Thanks for responding in advance, @starstrings01
Peakd is just an interface, it doesn't charge for anything.
Hmm. What exact minute is it on the video. What I may have said is to create an account for newbies through account creation token then send them their password. Some of them do not remember to download their password when registering thereby making them loose the account after just registering.
Is not against any rules. It is your voting power, you can use it anyhow you want but you would not receive the same curation reward as for voting in the first 24 hrs.
Wow I just learned no 3 now.
You are getting bigger on the platform. Kudos
Thank you very much sweetheart 🤗
You are welcome my hive boss
