Por qué te fuistes Schumi? / Schumi, why are you sleeping? A comment about F1.

Hay veces que cuando prendo la tv y veo comerciales de F1 me pregunto a lo eddie santiago: Que nos paso?

Cuando la f1 pasó a ser tan desagradablemente aburrida y monótona? Nunca había visto tanta superioridad de un equipo o de un piloto en particular. Y miren que han habido cambios. Por todos lados: reglas generales, pistas, Pits, chasis, cauchos(neumáticos), Pole Position...y nada.

La nada misma. Aunque ocurrió algún que otro adelantamiento interesante, algun accidente "Atractivo" a la vista, y la pista de Monza que es fija en emociones. Pero sigue la fila sin moverse.Lewis hamilton rompe récords sin presión alguna. Hace años era red bull y sus súper autos intratables. Pero ahora es Mercedes. No niego que existio un tiempo en el que Ferrari estaba un pié por delante de la competencia, pero esto es mas fuerte que el Twitter de una actriz para adultos promocionando.

No se acostumbren!/Don't get use to it!

Sometimes, I turn on the TV and as I watch ads about F1 I wonder: what happened to you?

When F1 turned to be so boring, repetitive and focused exclusively on money. I’ve never seen this supremacy on a team or a specific driver, and a lot of changes have been made. You name it: General rules, Circuits, Pits, Chassis, tires, Pole position…and it’s the same show.

We have had some good interesting fights, some impressive crashes and of course, the always exciting Monza circuit. But something is not going well.

Lewis Hamilton crushes records without any pressure and few years ago it was Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull’s Super cars. And this is the time for Mercedes. I can’t deny that 20 years ago Ferrari was one step ahead its rivals, but not this huge. It’s as extreme as the twitter of an xxx Actress showing her content.

Actualmente Ferrari esta atrapada en la inefectividad, red bull tuvo sus 30 minutos de fama pero y los demás? No dan guerra? No pueden y actualmente las ganancias son lo que mas importa. Es el marketing. Si no pregúntele a Pastor Maldonado (sin intención de herir simpatias o cambiar el contenido deportivo del post, advertidos pequeños)

Muchas de estas escuderias pequeñas y medianas solían dar competitividad, no eran conos moviles en los que el líder prácticaba. Da mucha frustración ver como un negocio que hace 20 años estaba en los cielos promoviendo espectáculo de verdad y carreras emocionantisimas!

Recuerdo vivamente una batalla Schumacher vs Hakkinnen, durísima hasta la ultima vuelta...Hakkinnen pasó a Michael que estaba en pits y quedaba 1 vuelta. Incluso a pesar de la constante presión del alemán no veía forma de que lograra pasar, tenían la misma potencia y Mika era muy muy bueno pilotando. Michael bajó el ritmo a 2 curvas para el final ( mencioné que se jugaba el liderato en esa.carrera?) Y de repente Murphy y el coco aparecieron:

El auto de Mika reventó ante la incesante presión de Michael y salio en la ultima curva. Ganador schumi! Increible! Tomando en cienta la cantidad de vueltas e intentos que hizo Schumi por recuperar la punta y la soberbia defensa de Mika.

Nowadays Ferrari is being trapped by problems; Red Bull enjoyed and finished its 30 minutes of glory and what about the others? They can’t compete at the same level of intensity. Or maybe a good profit is the only goal to meet. It’s all about marketing, we have Pastor Maldonado as a good example (it’s not intended to hurt some feelings or change the content of this post, you’ve been advised).

Many of this small teams, used to give a good battle, now they are just mere moving cones for the leader to warm up. It’s so frustrating to see how a sport that 20 years ago was on heaven, promoting the excitement first.

I remember clearly a battle between Mika hakkinen and Michael Schumacher, a tough one till last lap. Mika surpassed Michael while he was on pits and one lap remaining. No matter how much Michael tried to take back the lead, Mika defended it well. They had similar vehicles and both excellent drivers. Michael calmed down and let Mika to win the race at very last curve (did I mention that it was a very important race for the championship?) And then Murphy happened:

Mika’s engine exploded because of the effort and he retired from the race just some meters away from the finish line. Schumacher won the race! Unbelievable! Michael’s pressure over Mika changed everything.

Otro recuerdo tremendo fue en Monza, primera vuelta. Todos los autos demasiado juntos llegan a máxima velocidad (saludos a Max Leffeld) a la primera chicana de la pista lamentablemente para los pilotos ( para mí espectacular) empiezan los roces y los choque son inevitables.

Han escuchado acerca del efecto mariposa? Piezas vuelan por todos lados,el humo se esparce, los cauchos(neumáticos) chirrian y de repente algo que solo he visto en matrix: El auto de Pedro de la Rosa sale impulsado de la parte de atras hacia adelante dando un giro y aplastandose contra el suelo. Recuerdoque duraron muchísimo tiempo antes de poder seguir. Y de la Rosa ileso :)

Another good remember happened on Monza at the very first lap. All cars, too much close from each other, arrived to the first chicane. As if a movie clip was about crashes came from everywhere. Have you ever heard about the butterfly effect? Random pieces of cars were expulsed from that accident but the most shocking one was nelson de la Rosa flying over the rest of drivers! The circuit staff took a very long time to pick every dangerous piece from the road and De la Rosa left the place unharmed. :)

Momento clave/ Breaking moment

Y muchas, muchas historias... como por ejemplo (y termino jeje) la vez que Rubens Barrichello aguanto hasta el ultimo segundo de la carrera antes de dejar pasar Schumacher al primer lugar.Asi Rubens violaba una orden de equipo, debido a que necesitaban que Michael ganara por el campeonato, pero Rubens quería ganar y merecia lograrlo. Sorprendentemente peleo la posición con Schumi pero al final cedió mandando un mensaje: Gana porque me obligan, lo cual ocasionó un huracán en la F1...

Pero ahora sólo nos queda ver al británico ganar una y otra...bueno para que seguir mejor probamos Fórmula E y hay más suerte. Hablaré de ella luego y créanme que se merece un poco de sweet sweet love

And many other wonderful memories, like ( this is the last one, I promise) when Rubens Barrichello held the lead till the very last second before he let himself to be surpassed by Michael Schumacher. Rubens disobeyed a team order, because Ferrari needed Schumacher to win that race in order to keep the first position on the championship. But Rubens wanted to win, he deserved it well. Surprisingly, he defended his position sending a message:” He will win the race because I allow him to do it.” And that created a heavy debate on the F1.
But now, we just watch Lewis Hamilton winning races over and over again…well, I think that we should give Formula E a try and believe me: It deserves some sweet love.
