Una clavada ocurre cuando una pieza no puede moverse sin exponer a otra pieza de mayor valor a ser capturada. Por ejemplo, si un alfil está atacando a un caballo que a su vez protege a la dama, el caballo está clavado. Si se mueve, la dama quedará desprotegida y será capturada.
