En este fin de semana post festividades navideñas, la Premier League mantuvo (en parte) la tradición del Boxing Day, al ofrecer tan solo un encuentro, el cual fue entre Manchester United vs Newcastle United, dejando la mayoría de los encuentros a disputar entre sábado y domingo; justamente el día de ayer se llevó a cabo el encuentro más importante de la jornada, en donde no estaban involucrados los dos clubes que se posicionan en el primer y segundo puesto, sino los que están en la tercera y cuarta posición.

On this weekend after the Christmas holidays, the Premier League maintained (in part) the Boxing Day tradition by offering only one match, between Manchester United and Newcastle United, leaving most of the matches to be played between Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday saw the most important match of the day, which did not involve the two clubs in first and second place, but rather those in third and fourth place.
El Chelsea FC en el Stanford Bridge recibió la visita del Aston Villa; ambos clubes antes de la disputa de la décimo octava jornada eran parte de los cuatro primeros lugares de la tabla de posiciones, aunque el club de Birmingham tenia muchas más posibilidades de no solo mantener su posición sino seguir haciendo crecer las posibilidades de ser un contendiente más al título y es que el equipo dirigido por Unai Emery al momento de enfrentar este encuentro, tenía una racha de siete victorias consecutivas en la Premier League, cosa contraria sucede en el Chelsea de Maresca que después de una victoria contundente en Champions League contra el FC Barcelona, ha visto como en los últimos ocho encuentros solamente ha ganado dos, siendo una de esas victorias en los cuartos de final de la EFL Cup contra el Cardiff City FC, un club de la tercera división del fútbol inglés.

Chelsea FC welcomed Aston Villa to Stanford Bridge; before the 18th matchday, both clubs were in the top four of the table, although the Birmingham club had a much better chance of not only maintaining its position but also increasing its chances of becoming a contender for the title. At the time of this match, Unai Emery's team had a streak of seven consecutive victories in the Premier League. The opposite was true for Maresca's Chelsea, which, after a resounding victory in the Champions League against FC Barcelona, has won only two of its last eight matches, one of those victories being in the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup against Cardiff City FC, a club in the third division of English football.
Sin quitarle relevancia a la racha o actualidad de ambos clubes, no había duda de que este sería un encuentro muy atractivo para los aficionados a la Premier League, ya que esta era una gran oportunidad para ambos de dar un paso adelante para sus pretensiones en la temporada, aunque estaba convencido de que el equipo azul de Londres tenía la obligación de ganar para dejar atrás malos resultados y así enfrentó el primer tiempo del encuentro, la presión dominante en el medio campo generada por Enzo, Caicedo, James y Cucurella y el constante ataque por los extremos con Garnacho y Pedro Neto hizo que el equipo visitante no genera creaciones de peligro y no tuviera la tranquilidad para mantener la posesión del balón; lamentablemente para el Chelsea, todo ese trabajo o dominio se reflejo en tan solo un gol de diferencia, lo cual para un equipo que no está jugando bien fue insuficiente para poder enfrentar el resto del encuentro.

Without detracting from the current form of both clubs, there was no doubt that this would be a very attractive match for Premier League fans, as it was a great opportunity for both sides to take a step forward in their season, although I was convinced that the London Blues had to win to put their poor results behind them. They approached the first half of the match with this in mind, and the dominant pressure in midfield generated by Enzo, Caicedo, James, and Cucurella, along with the constant attacks down the wings by Garnacho and Pedro Neto, meant that the visiting team was unable to create any danger and did not have the composure to maintain possession of the ball. Unfortunately for Chelsea, all that work and dominance was reflected in only a one-goal difference, which for a team that is not playing well was insufficient to face the rest of the match.
Siendo sincero, el Aston Villa tuve una dosis de suerte en que su rival no concretó las ocasiones que generaron en el primer tiempo; el equipo de Emery presentó una notoria desconexión en dónde defendieron bien por momentos, pero atacaban muy mal, la constante perdida del balón fue un gran problema, pero como dije anteriormente, la suerte del desacierto rival fue sumamente beneficioso, ya que la desventaja era de tan solo un gol y eso hizo que el entrenador español ideara un plan para el segundo tiempo, unos últimos 45 minutos en dónde el Aston Villa después de una hora de encuentro pudo chutar por primera vez al arco rival y no solo eso, sino que el ingreso de Ollie Watkins conseguirá al salvador al anotar dos goles que le dió la octava victoria consecutiva a su equipo en la Premier League.

To be honest, Aston Villa had a stroke of luck in that their opponents failed to convert the chances they created in the first half. Emery's team showed a noticeable disconnect, defending well at times but attacking very poorly. The constant loss of possession was a big problem, but as I said before, their opponents' lack of accuracy was extremely beneficial, as they were only one goal down, which allowed the Spanish coach to come up with a plan for the second half. In the last 45 minutes, Aston Villa managed to shoot at the opponent's goal for the first time after an hour of play. Not only that, but Ollie Watkins came off the bench to score two goals that gave his team its eighth consecutive victory in the Premier League.
Los Villanos se han convertido en un invitado que nadie esperaba en la fiesta que parecía ser solamente entre Arsenal y Manchester City, creo que la actividad en equipo, la relevancia de jugadores netamente titulares como por ejemplo Tielemans en el miedo campo, así como Morgan Rogers en el ataque y "Dibu" Martínez en la arquería se convierte en un complemento para la base que es el compromiso de todo el equipo que en mi opinión experimenta una competencia interna lo cual es fundamental para tener a todos preparados esperando su oportunidad para aportar a los objetivos del club; este equipo tiene una excelente mentalidad, que les proporciona competir contra cualquier rival y que por los momentos le ha funcionado para estar con la posibilidad de obtener el liderato de la Premier League a pesar de competir con equipos que están más acostumbrados a ese tipo de situaciones, pero creo que Emery y sus jugadores sabrán que prioridad deberán tener en la temporada y posiblemente se toman la competencia local un paso a la vez aunque el próximo martes en su último encuentro del año, tendrán una gran posibilidad de alcanzar o subir un puesto más y eso será cuando nuevamente enfrenten al Arsenal a quien ya derrotaron hace semanas atrás.

Así es, la constancia y el juego en equipo es vital, están teniendo una buena racha que será puesta a prueba nuevamente cuando enfrenten al Arsenal el día de mañana, ese es el encuentro a ver porque creo que pueden terminar el año como líderes de la Premier League aunque seguramente el primero de enero lo pierdan cuando juegue el ManCity.
