Pocos días atrás mencioné en un artículo que mi equipo favorito había logrado acceder a los 1/8 de final del torneo Clausura de nuestra liga profesional argentina, de manera sorpresiva, cuando nadie lo esperaba.
Y tan sorpresivo fue que 3 fechas antes del final de la etapa regular estábamos contando los puntos para ver si nos salvábamos del descenso, pero todo cambió para bien en esta ocasión. Con un nuevo DT, el tercero o cuarto de la temporada (ya ni se cuantas veces cambiamos) el equipo renació de sus cenizas como el ave Fénix y ganó 3 partidos consecutivos, todos muy bravos; en primer término dimos cuenta del alicaído River Plate que aunque esta pasando por un mal momento siempre es un rival de temer y más cuando juega de local. El siguiente fue Vélez Sarsfield, un equipo siempre difícil que ha tenido unas buenas últimas temporadas, el último otra vez de visitante, el sorpresivo campeón del torneo Apertura de este mismo año: Platense.
Tres triunfos consecutivos, adiós al fantasma del descenso y la clasificación entre los 8 mejores de cada una de las 2 zonas en que se divide el torneo Clausura.
Finalizamos esa etapa clasificatoria en séptimo lugar y nos tocó enfrentar al segundo de la otra zona, el club Unión de Santa Fe, que había perdido solo un partido de local en todo el torneo. Nueva sorpresa, ganamos nuestro cuarto partido consecutivo, fue 2 a 1 y pasamos a cuartos de final.
Se suma a la ilusión del querido Gimnasia el anuncio de una nueva renovación de nuestro estadio, demandará mucho dinero y tiempo, así que deberemos esperar.
Como si las sorpresas fueran pocas, una nota de color se agrega a la lista: de los 8 clasificados del grupo B solo Gimnasia pasó a cuartos de final; los restantes equipos fueron eliminados.
Nos toca este fin de semana el equipo de Barracas Central, polémica en puerta, ya que desde la llegada de "Quiqui" Tapia a la presidencia de la AFA parece haber sido beneficiado por muchos arbitrajes favorables. De hecho, el ministro de Transformación y desregulación del Estado, Federico Sturzenegger, ha publicado una serie de estadísticas de las cuales se desprende claramente que el equipo del cual es simpatizante Tapia fue beneficiado desde su llegada al frente de la poderosa Asociación del Fútbol Argentino.
Todos los ojos estarán puestos en Barracas Central y en el árbitro, nosotros seremos los convidados de piedra, lo cual no es malo, nos quita parte de la presión.
Ojalá la impronta demostrada por este mentalmente renovado equipo de mi querido Lobo Platense pueda continuar avanzando pese a todo, ansío una alegría que se nos debe a los esforzados y sufridos hinchas desde hace muchos años., Se que será tremendamente dificil porque de pasar a Barracas Central nos puede tocar nuestro rival de toda la vida, Estudiantes de La Plata que se clasificó casi de casualidad pero le ganó también de visitante al polémico recién nombrado campeón de 2025 por decreto, Rosario Central, ni que decir que su moral está por los cielos.
Todo está abierto y no quiero ilusionarme, pero cuesta.
The surprise continues
A few days ago, I mentioned in an article that my favorite team had surprisingly reached the Round of 16 of the Clausura tournament in our Argentine professional league, when no one expected it.
It was surprising that, three matchdays before the end of the regular season, we were counting points to see if we could avoid relegation, but everything changed for the better this time. With a new manager, the third or fourth of the season (I've lost count of how many times we've changed), the team rose from the ashes like a phoenix and won three consecutive matches, all very tough. First, we defeated the struggling River Plate, who, although going through a rough patch, are always a formidable opponent, especially at home. Next was Vélez Sarsfield, a consistently difficult team that has had some good seasons recently. The last match was another away game against the surprise champion of this year's Apertura tournament: Platense.
Three consecutive wins, goodbye to the specter of relegation, and qualification among the top eight in each of the two zones of the Clausura tournament.
We finished that qualifying stage in seventh place and were drawn against the second-place team from the other zone, Unión de Santa Fe, who had only lost one home game in the entire tournament. Another surprise: we won our fourth consecutive match, 2-1, and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Adding to the excitement of our beloved Gimnasia fans is the announcement of a new stadium renovation; it will require a significant investment of time and money, so we will have to wait.
As if the surprises weren't enough, a colorful note is added to the list: of the 8 teams that qualified from group B, only Gimnasia advanced to the quarterfinals; the remaining teams were eliminated.
This weekend, we're playing Barracas Central, and there's controversy brewing, as the team seems to have benefited from numerous favorable refereeing decisions since "Quiqui" Tapia took over as president of the AFA. In fact, the Minister of State Transformation and Deregulation, Federico Sturzenegger, has published a series of statistics that clearly show that the team Tapia supports has benefited since he assumed leadership of the powerful Argentine Football Association.
All eyes will be on Barracas Central and the referee; we'll be the bystanders, which isn't a bad thing, as it takes some of the pressure off.
I hope the spirit shown by this mentally renewed team of my beloved Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata can continue to grow despite everything. I long for the joy that is owed to us, the hard-working and long-suffering fans, for so many years. I know it will be incredibly difficult because if we get past Barracas Central, we could face our lifelong rival, Estudiantes de La Plata, who qualified almost by chance but also beat Rosario Central, the controversial newly crowned 2025 champion by decree, away from home. Needless to say, their morale is sky-high.
Everything is still up in the air, and I don't want to get my hopes up, but it's tough.
