COLLECTING MEMORIES BY THE SEA: FROM SEA TO TABLE

in Hive PH5 months ago

Good day, my sweet, supportive Hive family. This is @queeniemary with a new blog post. Today, I am going to share one of my favorite experiences with you. I hope you will take the time to read it.

It was early in the morning when my mom woke me up to go to the ocean to gather food for our lunch. She asked if I wanted to join them in collecting seashell from the sea. I agreed because it had been a long time, about five years since I last did this. I immediately got up to prepare the things we needed, like a bucket for the seashell and a knife.

On the way to Tuyan

We decided to leave at 7:00 AM. My niece and nephew woke up early because they wanted to join us, so my mom agreed. Once we were all ready to go, I asked my brother if he could drive us to Barangay Tuyan, as that's where we planned to gather seashell. There is a closer ocean where we used to gather seashell, but it has been closed off, which is why we decided to go to Tuyan.

Finally, we arrived at our destination. The sight of the peaceful ocean filled me with excitement. We were there to gather seashell for our lunch, so My mom immediately went to the area abundant with stones, as that's where most of the seashellare usually found. Naturally, I joined her and we started opening the stone to get the shellfish

looking for seashell

It was only 8:00 in the morning, yet the sun was already too hot. That's why I wore a towel to cover my head. The heat was not normal, and you would get a headache if you did not have any cover for your head.

satisfying smile

Going to the sea to look for seafood is also one of our bonding activities because it's really exciting to search for seashell among the rocks. That's why my niece and nephew were so happy and enjoyed looking for it. When my nephew found a seashell, he called me over and showed me what he found. I took a picture of him because he was smiling so big.

seashell in the stone

You can find seashells in the stones because they cling to them. I was really happy because I was able to find a lot. It's really difficult to find them because their shells have the same color as the stones, so you have to be quick to be able to find some.

Admiring the stunning scenery of the ocean.

It was 10 am when we decided to go home because we had already collected many seashells. However, before we left, my niece and nephew were playing in the sea. The view was so beautiful that I also took a picture while sitting on a large rock, posing like a mermaid HEHEHE.

Walking

After capturing some photos, we looked for a jeepney to take us home since my brother was already asleep and unreachable. Unfortunately, I forgot to snap a picture while we were on the jeepney, so I don't have any to show. The journey was brief, and we reached Naga within minutes. Upon reaching the main road, we decided to walk the rest because it would be too expensive to take another ride. Once we got home, we immediately started cleaning the seashells with fresh water. My nephew offered to help and took over the task of washing. We had indeed gathered a substantial number of seashells.

Since we had already washed the seashells, my mother began preparing to cook the large amount of seashells we had collected. I asked her if she could prepare them in the style of "Humba," a Filipino braised pork dish because they taste really good when she cooks the seashells this way. So, my mother started cooking and I was very excited because it had been a long time since I last ate this.

Yes! The seashell "humba" is ready to eat, but first, when you eat it, you need to use a needle to extract the meat from the seashell. Once you have it, it may not look appetizing at first glance because of its appearance, but in reality, it tastes delicious. I prefer eating it without rice. I know this seashell may not be familiar to you, but if you cook it as a main dish, it is truly delectable and one of my favorites.

I also loved to collect shells if I am at the beach. It is so fun to do.

"Indeed, but the one in the stone is really hard to get. You'll be confused whether it's a stone or a shell."

Love it! Since, I love seas even though I can't swim haha

"Same here, I don't know how to swim either, but I love the sea."

Never tried eating this kind of seashells. As I remember, I only tried scallops, suso, and oysters. What an enjoying moment you have there! ☺️

You should try it, ma'am. Give it a try, it's delicious

Good job Ma'am @queeniemary
In time like now, everything is getting expensive in the market. You and your family are resourceful Ma'am, eating a healthy food without paying anything.
