500 peso challenge at Sugbo Mercado

Yesterday, I went to Sugbo Mercado after gym to grab some dinner. Since its a solo kind of night, I thought of having a 500 peso challenge for dinner. In a typical restaurant, meals are priced around 300-400 pesos, excluding dessert. So more or less, dinner expenses would be about 500 pesos.

Upon arriving at Sugbo Mercado, I noticed that there are some stalls that are flocked with many customers while others only have a few. So for my challenge, i decided to buy from those best sellers and see for myself what caused the hype.

This is by far the most creative stall there is. Osaka Shinsekai offers Japanese ramen and other Japanese dishes. I saw some foreigners try their ramen a while ago.



As i continue to roam around between the stalls, I'm also trying to search for a seat because most seats are occupied. Since i'm solo, i can't just leave my things in the table and roam around. The table has to be somewhere near where I order.

Finally, I found a stall that awakened my appetite, the la Plato. I ordered their porkchop for 170 pesos (money available: 330 pesos) and wait in the queue to claim my order.


I also ordered carbonara pasta from Pasta Hut for 125 pesos (money available: 205 pesos).


Now for the verdict, the porkchop looked very appetizing and not to mention, their plating looks aesthetic. However, it's very hard to chew and the rice was a little uncooked. The sunny side up egg taste bland too. I wasn't able to finish the meal in the end.

From the right corner, the carbonara pasta was creamy and delicious. I also loved the idea that the seller only specialized pasta and nothing else in the menu. It simply means that they're pasta is perfectly crafted and well- thought of.

I still have a few hundred peso bill so i decided to buy some Mango shake to serve as my dessert. I found this famous stall in the corner that most foreigners are into- the Aly Mango. Their stall looks festive too. I ordered their original mango shake for 150 pesos (money available: 55 pesos). The shake taste okay but i don't find anything special about it.

My stomach feels so full and i still have a change of 55 pesos. Now i can conclude that this challenge was a success. Although if i could change my porkchop order into something else, then I would.
