Hello Everyone, How are you? hoping you have a good day today. At this moment I would like to share with you my Impromptu Hive Onboarding Orientation to High School Teachers of Quintin Quijano Sr. Agricultural School Mambog Pinabacdao Samar, Philippines.

Last October 23, 2022, I decided to go home to my province in Samar to have a short vacation from my 3 years of work in the corporate construction industry in Mandaue Cebu, Philippines. I’ve been separated from my previous company since September 30, 2022, but I stay for a while in the City to think about the next move in my life (dramatic quote) and also find a new job.

Fortunately, before I went to my province a construction management company accepted my application as one of their Engineer and my onboarding at the project site will be on November 7, 2022. Since I submitted the pre-employment requirements on October 22, 2022, and theirs a two weeks gap before starting my new job, I take this opportunity to have some quality time with my family in Samar Philippines.

I’ve Traveled a total of ten hours from Cebu Philippines to my hometown. It’s a long travel, but theirs a short and alternative ways, and it's my choice to take a long way because it will save me a few dollars. Honestly, I’m out of my budget right now and I’m trying to save some money before starting my next job.

One of my reasons also for going home is to share and introduce this amazing platform Hive to my family and friends. On October 26, 2022, I open up this platform to one of my cousins who is a teacher and also a writer. She is the one who teaches us to write an article during my Highschool Days. Funny because at that time Im not into writing but she let me join the School Paper Organization as a Filipino writer and thankful to her I learned the basic concept of being a Journalist in this organization.

Internet Problem

When I start introducing Hive to her one of my problem also started. Internet connection in our place is Fu__ing missed up. I can't even reload my account in PeakD to show her what is inside the Hive platform. Im like discussing a thesis without a presentation and proof. We go out of the house and try to open the PeakD using my phone and cellular data connection. The same result the PeakD didn’t reload. Our last option is the Peso Wifi, a type of coin vendo for internet connection located 10 minutes from the house of my cousin.

I Inserted a coin to have internet access and was glad it work out but we need to stay in the perimeter of the Wifi Vendo to still have access. To tell you Im discussing Hive outside in a waiting shed area. Im like offering a product outside the street and discussing the details of the product. It's already late at 8:30 pm and we are still outside discussing Hive the rain can start pouring anytime due to the low-pressure area.

We decided to cut the discussion and she ask me if I can go to her school tomorrow to continue and discuss the hive thoroughly together with my other cousin who is also a teacher in that school. She told me it's better to discuss it there because they have a more stable internet connection. Since the Internet is stable Im gladly accepted her invitation. But Im a little bit shy and also excited cause it's my High School Alma Matter It's been a long time since my last visit here and this time probably I will meet again my idol teachers.

3:00 PM on the next day October 27, 2022, when I visited the school, the feeling was nostalgic when I step in inside the school and it reminds me of my high school days. But I never let these feelings distract me and focused on my purpose in school. So I asked the students where is the classroom of Mrs. Raquil and head directly to her classroom.

While heading to the room someone called my name inside one room and when I turn back it is my friend who is also a Teacher at this School and the interrogation on me begin with this fella why I’m at the school, why Im in Samar and who is the reason why I’m at school. She asks a lot of questions like Cardi B but I answer her calmly so I can proceed with my purpose. I tell her that Im at school for Hive orientation, I give them a little information about the platform, and after I ask them together with her co-teacher if they want to join in with Orientation to thoroughly know about Hive because of their curiosity about this platform she let me use her room as the Venue together with her Television for the presentation of Hive Orientation.

Im glad and nervous at the same time that after a few minutes more teachers want to know Hive and want to join in the Orientation and one teacher is my English teacher before in Highschool. I call my two cousins to come into the classroom of my friend where the orientation will be held. They are also shocked when they saw some of their colleagues were already in the room waiting where originally they should only be the two that I will be orienting but in actuality, I orient 8 teacher’s in total at that time.

While I’m setting up for the orientation, my heart beat getting fast and I’m nervous honestly that time because I didn’t expect more audience at this orientation and to discuss it Infront of the teachers who I used to listen on their discussion before and now they became my student and listen on me about the amazing Hive Platform.

Orientation Topic

First, I let them watch the Hive Informational Video by @lordbutterfly and shared by @theycallmedan and discuss a little information about blockchain. (hoping I give justice to the information I give about blockchain). Then I discuss how this social media platform differs from other social media like Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, etc. I also discuss the Hive ecosystem and different frontends of Hive.

I also navigate them into the interface of PeakD that I usually used among the frontends. I also discuss the different communities inside hives that may fit their interest and remind them that in every community there are different rules to follow.

I also teach them how to create a blog using PeakD and informed them how their article /blog gains a reward and how they withdraw it using a smart chain.And most importantly informing them of the don’ts in Hive that they should never try, like Plagiarism and using Photos of others without souring the owners. I emphasize how plagiarism is a big no in Hive that can ruin/stop their journey on the Hive Platform.

I end my orientation with a Question and Answer after the presentation I also asked them some requirements before giving a Hive account like a Draft of an introduction post.

Assessment and expectation

For this group I've oriented so far, they are all curious about the Hive Platform though it is just an impromptu orientation and out of their schedule, they are all still eager to know more about Hive. Expectation, my one mentor teach me to have Zero Expectations that they will onboard on Hive. Disseminating the Information of Hive around will be our focus and having a new onboard on Hive is a plus.

This Hive orientation is so far one of the big events I've done in Hive and I'm glad I did it in a successful way I think, hahaha. It is my first time to escalate and introduce Hive in my province and Im rooting to do it more with my other family and friends.
