I have been posting about other municipalities and this time, I want to proudly feature my beloved hometown, Bogo City.
Bogo, Dakbayan nga Matahum (Beautiful City) as per the city's hymn. Bogo City is a 6th class component City in the northern part of Cebu province. Its name derived from the Bogo tree. It was declared a city on June 16, 2007. It is a thriving city and is driving towards full digitalization.
It has been 2 years and 9 months since I moved back here in my hometown for good and I was stunned by its major changes and developments. I became a tourist in my own hometown. From concrete roads, to traffic lights, down to plethora of establishments. The City had indeed reached far and is completely different from the city that I used to know and grow up with.
So if you wanted to visit the city or if you happened to be in the city, here are some of the things that you can do:
https://peakd.com/@bingbing1218/posts
Church
A devoted Catholic who exercises deep faith can pay a visit to these pilgrim sites in Bogo.
The Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Vincent Ferrer
Barangay Bungtod, Bogo City, Cebu
This is also known as Bogo Church. Its official feast day is celebrated every 5th of April as it is Saint Vincent Ferrer's death. While the town fiesta celebration is on May 26-27 of the year. People
flock the church to pilgrim on the said dates.
Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Shrine
Barangay Lapaz, Bogo City, Cebu
A hundred steps to the temple where you could worship and pray intently in a serene and tranquil environment. It is believed that those who wore the blessed Miraculous Medal shall have the special protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Virgen de los Remedios Parish
Barangay Odlot, Bogo City, Cebu
Located in Barangay Odlot. It is one of the most visited pilgrim sites in Bogo. I heard many stories about answered prayers and sick people being healed by the patron saint.
Food
Hungry? Bogo City has become the food hub with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Here's few of the restaurants in Bogo for you to try.
Ze Marco Restaurant
Sor D. Rubio St, Bogo City, Cebu. Located in front of St. Louise De Marillac Highschool
It is a perfect restaurant for celebrations of all occasions with its cozy ambience. I had celebrated my 29th birthday at the restaurant with my family. They offer Filipino cuisines such as lumpia, pancit, pork sisig, bicol express and kare-kare, they have steak, pastas and sandwiches.
Capitancillo Restaurant
Pelaez Street, Bogo City, Cebu. Behind Gaisano.
The name is inspired by the city's famous islet, Capitancillo. It is one stop cafe that offers variety of dishes from meals, desserts, coffees and refreshments. Just like Ze Marco, it is also ideal for family and friends gathering. I celebrated my 30th birthday here with my family.
Dampa sa Bogo
Malingin National Highway, Bogo City, Cebu
Craving for Seafood? Dampa sa Bogo is the answer. They are located at Brgy. Malingin, National Highway. They offer scrumptious sea food dishes at an affordable price.
4k's Seaside Restaurant
San Vicente St. Bogo City, Cebu
Situated near the Pantalan (Pier) of the city, this restaurant also serves seafood meals and other Filipino dishes. They are more accessible compared to Dampa sa Bogo.
Rock 'N Pizza
Barangay Cayang (Along National Highway), Bogo City, Cebu
It is a coffee shop, Italian, Filipino and Korean restaurant underneath one roof. Despite of its international cuisines, their interior is mostly made of bamboo.
Laurent's Food Hub & Restaurant
National Highway, Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City, Cebu
Not to be biased, this restaurant has been my favorite among all. Their pastas and pizzas are to die for. Their restaurant is at National Highway, Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City.
Machu Picchu
39 Almirante St, Bogo City, Cebu
A restaurant across the Bogo Public Plaza. This one is for those who loves Japanese food as they offer Japanese ramen, sushi, different kinds of maki and takoyaki. Apart from it, like other restaurants, they have Filipino and Italian dishes.
Cafe
Want some good coffee, refreshments and a place where you could comfortably read a book, work on your laptop or scroll your social medias? A lot of cafes had emerged on the city and here are my recommended cafes for you to visit.
Dela Rama Coffee and Cakes
Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City, Cebu
Nestled at Bogo City Centrum. You can immediately smell the aroma of coffee the moment you enter the café. It is a scent of comfort and solace. Cakes and other pastries which they are known for are being served paired with their coffee.
Kapenarra Coffee House
Barangay Dakit, Bogo City, Cebu
A beautiful landscape will welcome you in Kapenarra. Its vast ground is perfect for alfresco dining.
They have gazebo where you could get an overview of the whole landscape. A delight while taking a sip of your good coffee.
Cafe Alto Coffee Lounge
Barangay Cayang, Bogo City, Cebu
A newly opened cafe near the city hall. They offer varieties of coffees and beverages, cakes and meals. The place have private areas where you could set meetings or have a heart to heart intimate conversation with your friend.
Activities
Got kids? A badminton enthusiast like me? Wanted to chill? The city got you covered.
Public Plaza
It is where the city's children's playground is situated. An avenue where kids could interact with other kids and make new friends. It has no entrance fee but with time limit to accommodate the children who wanted to play.
The public plaza is a space where you could stroll, sit or have a picnic under the shade of trees.
39 Almirante St, Bogo City, Cebu
Most of the city's events are held in the plaza's amphitheater.
Bogo Pantalan
Brgy. San Vicente , Bogo City, Cebu
A haven for those who love sunsets. The Bogo Pantalan is just a 15 minute walk from the city's public plaza. You could bring your food and take it to the wharf. Enjoy every sip of your drink and every take of your food while sun set watching.
City Hall Sidewalk
Barangay Cayang, Bogo City, Cebu
This place has been the newest trend among the Bogohanons. Even people from neighboring municipalities would visit the sidewalk for a great chill at night either solo or with family and friends. You may bring portable tables and chairs, coupled with great music, you can fondly devour your dinner under the moonlight and cool temp. It is a perfect spot for family bonding.
At 5pm onwards, the place is filled with people who love to exercise such as hiking and jogging.
Lima Badminton Club
Barangay Cayang, Bogo City, Cebu
A badminton enthusiast will definitely love the high end facilities of the badminton court. It is the first badminton club in the north. So what are you waiting for? Grab your rackets and smash your heart out at Lima Badminton Club.
Captured Moments Self-Portrait-Studio
2nd Floor, J&J Building, San Vicente St., San Vicente. Beside PNB.
Take pictures like a celebrity at Captured Moments Self portrait. The beauty of this photo studio is you could take control of the camera and you are free to create whatever poses you want.
I have been wanting to try this and studios like this was only available in Cebu City. As a person who loves taking photos, I am stunned and glad that a self photo studio has come in Bogo City.
Bring your family and friends and take your group photos non stop.
So those are the few things you can do to enjoy your stay in my hometown. I hope you could visit here and try those recommended places.
Bogo is a combination of city and country side with buildings and infrastructures yet maintaining its greens and mountains. Unlike other cities that are bustling, Bogo City offers peace and safety.
This is the reason I decided to stay here for good.
Without any doubt, Bogo City is truly my home.
That’s all for this blog. Thank you for reading and until the next blog.
