Simple New Year’s day celebration with the family

Hello Hivers. I haven't felt well for the past week, so I've been inactive here. I'm still a bit dizzy and have a runny nose and a cough. It all started before Christmas when I overworked myself at home.

I wanted to share about my New Year's Day experience. I was invited by my aunt in Singapore to attend our family's New Year's gathering at my grandmother's house.
Due to my aunt's limited budget for food, not everyone was invited to the gathering at my grandmother's place. My husband stayed home to finish some work, so only my two kids and I visited.
We decided to stop by my workplace to pick something up before returning to my grandmother's house since we arrived early.
My family members and cousin (who is also my boss) arrived at my grandmother's house shortly after we did, carrying food. I had planned to bring spaghetti, but we had already cooked and shared it with my husband's family the night before New Year's, so I didn't have anything to contribute.

We had Pork Humba, Lechon Belly, lumpia, Chopsuey, sweet and sour pork ,pork bola2x, and of course spaghetti.

For our dessert, we have leche flan, Torta, Ube jam, fruit salad, cake,puto cheese,sapin2x, mango float, and fried banana.

I assisted in arranging the food on the table so we could begin eating. Once all the food was displayed, Lola (Grandma) led the prayer and then we started our meal.

After the meal, there was a lull in activity as Grandma didn't have a karaoke machine. My cousin Ivy was eager to sing, but it wasn't possible as Lola only had a TV. Meanwhile, the boys and some of the girls were enjoying beers. They offered me some, but I declined, explaining that I had stopped drinking hard liquor years ago.

The cousins and aunts generously distributed monetary gifts to the happy children after the meal.

My family used to talk and bond, but now everyone is always on their phones. Ever since my grandmother got internet at her house, no one talks to each other anymore. I tried to get their attention by taking photos of them while they were all using their phones, but they didn't even notice.
My parents invited my kids and me to visit them, but we couldn't go because it rained all afternoon.

The bring house food

We waited until 4:30 pm for the rain to stop, then we decided to head home. Before we left, Lola packed some food for us to take home, which we call "bring house." I took some dessert and other food items. We left for home as soon as we had our "bring house."

When we arrive at our place we witness the beautiful sunset. I grab my phone and take some pictures.

Ending thoughts
The internet and electronic devices have unfortunately reduced the quality of time we spend with our families.

It is customary on my father's side of the family to bring home food or other items after attending gatherings.
