"Kumusta" - May Blogging Contest HivePH

"Kumusta?"

There is something comforting and warm about that specific Filipino word. Why? Because maybe in my lifetime, only a few ever questioned me that...authentically. Even if others don't mean whenever they say it, there's just something about this word that makes me feel...at peace. Like, yeah my life's shitty and all but, that words just makes it a little less...shittier.

Well, what is "Kumusta"?

"Kumusta" in English translation is "How are you doing", or "how you've been". It asks the receiver how their life went as of the moment. Like a basic empathic response to know if that person is doing well or not.

But why choose this word out of the rest, Anarkia?

Simple, it is most close to my heart, to my inner soul that keeps my cold mortal body, warm.
It opens a crack to my stone heart and makes it fragile.
It gives a kind of comfort and assurance that "Ah, may nag iisip pa pala sa akin."
It lifts my spirits up through its simple compassion that even though people don't meant it, it still sounds so reassuring.

I have been through a lot with my life, (as we all do), and being the depressed and anxious chick that I am, a simple word like this really gets through my heart. In my social media accounts in Facebook and Instagram, whenever I make a depressing stuff on MyDay or MyStory on each of them, even those people whom I have not contacted or communicated with for half of my life, messaged me. Like out of the blue, their icon badge would just pop up on my conervsation list. And their usually first message would be:

...Kumusta?"

Yung nangako silang nandyan lang sila lagi if kelangan mo sila.

"Kumusta"? "Kumusta ka? "

Hello guys! This is my first contest with Hive PH entitled May Blogging Contest. Have a nice day everyone! <3

Sort:

After reading this, I realized how much I take for granted those friends who ask me that simple words! And true to what you said, the intention of such words are powerful. It simply says "I care... I care about you". And somehow, the sadness or loneliness eases up.

Anyways, I hope you are doing well, @anarkia! Stay strong.

It does makes us realize a lot how we thought people don't care about us but actually, they do. Even if its just little.
Its quite lonely to think about it na through that simple word, na momove pa tayo. Like me... hahaha but it helps us have this assurance that we are not alone in this world and despite what shit the world does to us, someone is willing to be with us still.

Thank you @indayclara <3 I am doing well. I have a new job and I hope I pass its traning! hehe

Ramdam kita.. Naiiyak nga ako kung tinatanong lang ako ng kumusta... Coz those people na nangungumusta would really spare their time to listen and that's what you really need.. Well, depende nalang kung may ibang sadya. It will really start the conversation with "kumusta" 😄

I totally agree. Para nga sa iba mukhang oa na sa simpleng kumusta lang na momove na tayo with matching teary eyes. hahaha kaso iba lang talaga dating nya if you've been through so much eh. It is so simple yet so assuring na people do think of you pala talaga.

Yeah... 💞

Such a powerful word! sending hugs! 🤗

thankies!

Kumusta is indeed a simple word but means a lot to some who were asked about it. Yes indeed it means that you still have a part in their lives and still you are important.
