Check your hard drive health. Ubuntu is not good for starting from USB because it tries to mount the existing file system and swap partition. I once had to use Knoppix because of this. !BEER

Using raspberry pis. They do boot from USB I have them working now... kind of. At least it gets me back to trading for now.
