Hello beer friends, here is my post to @detlev's weekly Beer Saturday #380 🍺 Thanks a lot for hosting the fun challenge!

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 380

There was an interesting coincidence. Recently @seckorama mentioned Czech beer in a comment to my Beer Saturday post. Since I live in east part of Germany, Czech is not far from where I live. After I read the comment, I was thinking about traveling to Czech for beer.

I didn't travel by myself, but this week my partner and my daughter traveled to Czech and brought me back some beer. One light and one dark. They even brought a coaster of Svijany. What a nice souvenir!

I wrote last week I start my autumn/winter dark beer series but I was preparing Japanese street food called "Takoyaki" so I opened the light colored Lager. It's nice to have a sip while cooking.

It's smooth and refreshing typical of Czech beer as long as I remember from my old memory. Lager beer is popular in Japan (a bit more bitter though) so it is perfect fit to Takoyaki.

Takoyaki you can see in the photo above is a popular Japanese street food made from a wheat flour-based batter filled with pieces of octopus, then cooked in round molds until crispy on the outside and soft inside. They are typically topped with savory sauces, mayonnaise, spring onion and bonito flakes. I got an iron Takoyaki griddle from cooking friends.

My autumn/winter dark beer series may start next week 😉

Have a nice weekend and Beer Saturday everyone!

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 380

Sort:

"Svijans" aren't all bad. But the "cut Kozel" you have in the photo looks very watery to me.
I have no idea how far you live from the border with the Czech Republic, but I would certainly (if I were you) be more interested in beers from microbreweries.
You can view this map and find a brewery as close as possible to your place of residence.

Thank you for the suggestion. They were souvenir from my partner who doesn't drink much alcohol. Just he kindly brought some back for me for Beer Saturday. Locals mentioned Svijans and the Kozel was picked based on my rough request "dark beer please!" ...

I drank beer before but I'm more interested in it since I started joining Beer Saturday this spring. Now I try to get overview by trying main stream ones such as which kind of taste is typical in which country. Of course microbreweries are nice too and happy to try.

I wish I can visit Czech by myself soon :)

You're welcome:-)
Czech beer can also be bought in Germany and is definitely better than what is sold in Czech stores. Large breweries place more emphasis on exports.
