GERRY AND HIS GENES

Gerry the cat is six going on seven and lives a pretty normal house cat life.. That despite being deaf and needing a special diet for urinary stones to keep him alive...

All white cats are genetically susceptible to a "W" gene that causes deafness and some cases of blindness in those with 2 blue eyes.. Gerry lucked out on not being blind.. He also has vision in his blue eye.. thou as you can see the pupil in the blue eye is more dilatated .. Which to me shows it's weaker...

It helps to have a mom, sister & brother around.. so Gerry is a pretty sociable guy.. even with the other 7 cats in the house, the exception being Scary Mary...

This is a flash shot, that shows the blue eye pupil red.. caused by no pigment...

Gerry had an all white sister who was also deaf but had two green eyes .. All kinds of combinations can occur..

Their mother "Mama" has no defects .. Only thing different about her is she doesn't speak.. She is not mute but only makes tiny mouse like noises ... Gerry on the other hand is a talkative guy and on occasions lets out some loud yells.. but of course not hearing himself..

Beautiful photos! I didn't know these things about white cats.

I got Gerry, Mama and family when kittens were 2 weeks old ..Didn't know Gerry and his sister were deaf till they were 6 months old.. Gave them the sound test of making noise when they weren't looking ..Then brought out the vacuum for clinker..

What a gorgeous boy!!! So sweet!! ❤️🐱

Gerry's a good boy but his Mama is the real sweetie of the house .....
