Hello again!
Well, I'm actually not sure I have much of a readership here but that's ok - writing into the void has its merits =)
Gods... 3 weeks have passed since last post. My intention was once a week. (How on Earth did I blog on here 3 times a week back in 2017/18 ??)
The difference of course is having a much fuller life. Waking up early, dropping off/picking up kids from school, meals every day for 4, new house, starting a new business, coding up a game... Not sure where I'm supposed to fit in the rest of the activities I mentioned in the previous post.
For this one though, let me tell you about the above-mentioned two: First, the business! I've barely started but I believe biltong will sell well here. It's a traditional, extremely tasty meat snack from my home country, South Africa. Nothing even close exists here in Venezuela, and everyone who's tried it so far has been severely impressed =)

This last week, Alejandra and I started working on the design for the packaging. (We finally found an ideal package with waxed paper on the inside and a zip-lock seal).
"Lekker" is a terrific, very common Afrikaans word meaning "tasty" - I laugh inside thinking about what my SA friends and family will think when they see I've decided to call my brand "LEKKER BILTONG" .. :D ..
The second thing that's been taking all my extra time is Retronoid, a game I'm programming in order to learn Godot 4, an open-source engine that everyone's switched to since Unity changed something or other in their ToS.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy the process of coding up something creative. To even write this post, I had to fight the urge to jump straight back into Godot after lunch. The last two years, it was art (which you can see on the generative section of my site mandelsage.com). Inspired by my brother's first attempt, I started with Retronoid a few months ago:

Obviously, it's mostly an Arkanoid clone for android.. =) And that was all it was meant to be, so that I could learn Godot. But then ideas started flooding in and so it has gained a life of its own. I won't reveal much for now but let me know if you'd like to play-test it ^-^
