This is my participation in @elpausero's #Rules4Voting initiative which I think is an excellent opportunity to reflect on both sides of the coin. Usually we are always on the creator's side looking for the whale's vote, but we also play an important role, even if we don't have voting power. In my case I decided to give back to the community by helping people who are starting out.

Voting content

What I value most in a publication is the original content, zero tolerance for plagiarism. That when using third-party images they have the source correctly. It is also nice that they have a good format in the publication, although that is something that improves over time and is not as serious as stealing content.

Unfortunately my voting power is almost zero, so regulating your percentage of power when you vote would be useless, it would make no difference, so I vote for everything 100% and yes of course I have a problem with that, as I would like to award the reward more realistically, but for my voting power it is useless to regulate percentage.

If I had a greater voting power, I would obviously regulate their percentage of the vote. I understand that each curator decides his or her own criteria, which for one curator may be worth one vote for another not, but my thought is that an artist who spends a week making an oil painting cannot receive the same percentage of vote as a person who makes a selfie in the house.

However, the power of the community must also be taken into account, as it may be the case that one community of artists does not have much voting power and another community that uploads more generic content if it has whales with greater voting power. There are many factors to take into account why a work is not valued as it deserves.

The real change must come from the whales, valuing the content based on their quality and effort, leaving the policy of voting the most possible to get more return. Yes, unfortunately there are many whales that vote only with return in mind, so they vote as much as possible every day, no matter how much effort a person puts in, they simply have a standard percentage that they vote for everyone.

Creating content

I still have nightmares about what Steemit was like, how almost impossible it was to get voted in. Especially if you were doing content in Spanish. There was a mafia around a Hispanic group that if you didn't have their blessing it was almost impossible to get voted in.

My first valued post was the first one I made when I decided to start over here at Hive blog almost two months ago. It was incredible to be voted, the best thing of all, is that behind many of those votes there were Hispanic communities like Alebrijes.

Obviously receiving votes and comments was very stimulating, of course I wanted to improve, but more than improving I wanted to experiment, I admit that I love writing, but the writings are not so voted and there is also the fact that it is boring to do always the same. In the variety is the taste of life.

It's no secret that money conditions everything, that many people are behind the whales, looking for subjects that they like and trying to define what tastes they have in order to adapt to them and receive their votes. I must confess that when I started I had that thought.

I currently create content with which I am comfortable and happy, experimenting as much as possible within my free time. Although there is always the temptation to create complacent content for a whale, that is something that will never leave your thoughts because it works and cannot be denied.

Final Reflection

Both sides of the coin are difficult no matter what we think. Being a whale is not easy, every day there are more publications on the platform and it is mathematically impossible to vote for everyone in the right measure, plus if you want to do a real job reviewing each publication thoroughly it is even more complicated to cover the entire platform.

Being a creator it is also too complicated not to fall into the vices of creating complacent content, of making filler themes to see if you catch something. Of joining the wave that many surfers are looking for that vote that will save your theme and not remain at zero. I don't criticize those ways of acting since we don't know what the economic situation of each creator is.

Although there is something I would like to say to close the subject and that is that I am totally against the use of services that allow you to take all your part of the publication without going through HP. I don't give the name because I don't want to advertise and support the curators who are refusing to vote for the publications that use it.

It is up to us to take care of the platform and make it grow, not everything can be profit. Let's learn to enjoy the path of creating content, it is very satisfying to receive messages of thanks for what you teach. Enjoy the process!
