Helping a school in Venezuela and creating a Hive Hub

📜Project introduction

Providing internet access in South American countries like #Venezuela and #Cuba is a complex but vital endeavor that can have far-reaching socioeconomic and educational impacts. These countries face unique #challenges, including political and economic instability, geographic obstacles, and limited infrastructure. However, bridging the digital divide in these regions is essential to their development and the well-being of their residents.

We envision establishing a self-sustaining #ecosystem where communities can support emerging projects without relying on external funding. Once the internet costs for the school become self-sustained, the surplus rewards that are generated can be directed towards assisting a new school or community. This way we will be spreading education and leveraging community power with each new internet connection.

In our pursuit of maximizing the #socialimpact, we have chosen to commence our efforts by focusing on a school in Venezuela.

📓Education

The Venezuelan #education system should provide equal opportunity and protect the human rights of all students. Since the quality of education is so important, we must focus on creating the best learning environments that we can at each of our schools.

The #students deserve to be taught by qualified teachers who wish to see them succeed. The most immediate need is the upkeep and maintenance of their facilities, as it affects everyone, students and teachers, alike.

This debut School Improvement project will be a collaborative effort between @NahuPuku, @Orimusic, @cbrsphilanthropy and other communities on Hive. We have chosen this high school as the first test zone! Our vision includes setting up a blockchain-focused educational space inside one of the classrooms in the school. This will serve as a hub for student engagement and introducing new participants to Hive #Blockchain and other Blockchain ecosystems.

The primary goal of this project is to provide equal educational opportunities for all students. Through our own personal experiences, we have witnessed, and benefited from, the powerful developmental tools that have been created throughout the #Web3 movement. We see this as an invaluable tool in enriching the educational process for young minds.

Utilizing blockchain platforms such as #Hive, we aim to give every student the opportunity to produce meaningful work that has an impact on the greater world around them. This technology enables and protects a level of involvement that many children are denied in the physical world around them. Being able to share your experiences with your friends (and network) online is seen as a powerful method of self-expression.

This (HiveHub) will provide laptops & computers and a secure internet network that will allow students to access Hive applications, where they can access their blog and share their thoughts! We aim to instill fundamental moral #values in all the students, giving special attention to respect for life, education, and the protection of human rights.

🔨Improvements

It is worth mentioning that the high school needs to make many improvements and repairs, however, since it's a public institution, it does not receive adequate state funding. Improving the quality of education for students and teachers is vital to improving future outcomes. That is the moral imperative this project lends authority to.

Renovating the classroom and bringing it up to code for the twenty-first century is the first step in this process that we will pursue. Ensuring the stability and presence of the internet network at the #HiveHub will lead to establishing consistency in the environment and their daily routines. Access to information is what enables young minds to truly thrive in the digital age: we will institute updated/better security measures to mitigate the risk of theft or damage to any of the property.

It is the vision of CBRS Philanthropy to help produce the tools necessary for a successful and fulfilling life in concert with blockchain technologies. Hive offers the perfect platform for cultivating healthy social and financial habits. With an immutable, censorship-resistant ledger, anyone can publish an article or create their own community!

🏫The school

Agustín Aveledo High School opened on September 15, 1959. The high school is located on the corner of Natividad and Tajamar, at #44, in La Pastora neighborhood, Bolivarian Libertador Municipality, Capital District in Caracas, Venezuela.

📍Selecting Location

After checking several locations in Venezuela we decided to pick this school.

• A vibrant community: With approximately 600 students, this school boasts a dynamic community where, if just 10% of the students contribute, we can collectively support the internet costs.
• Diverse student age group: Catering to students aged 13 to 17, the school fosters a rich environment for collaboration and shared learning experiences.
• Strategic location: Situated in the bustling city of Caracas, the school benefits from the presence of the already-established Hive community. This proximity provides a valuable resource, as there are existing communities in Caracas eager to lend their support.

@CBRSPhilanthropy will dedicate their efforts to securing funding and promoting this project. After getting enough funding, @NahuPuku, @Orimusic, and the PukuMundo community will play a pivotal role in imparting knowledge about Hive and actively contributing to the development of HiveHub at the school.

📋To Dos & Costs

Prior to initiating the installation of internet connectivity at the school, it is imperative to address a series of repair and preparation tasks, which incur substantial costs.

Security Enhancements:

• Upgrade grille cylinder for enhanced #security.
• Replace knob lock for the wooden door.
• Install a padlock on the grille

Block Wall Enclosure:

• Establish security measures with a 12" block wall.
• Apply a fresh coat of paint to the wall and ensure uniform coverage on all surfaces.
• Paint all walls and ceilings within the designated area.

Lighting and Electrical Infrastructure:

• Inspect and install functional light fixtures.
• Implement six computer connections to support the technological requirements of the space.

Addressing these pre-requisite measures systematically will contribute to a #secure and well-prepared environment for the subsequent installation of internet connectivity. The comprehensive #execution of these tasks is estimated to incur a total cost of approximately $700, covering both materials and labor.

Setup of Internet Connection

At this stage we can finally set up the modem and internet connection. We know that there aren’t many internet service providers currently in the area, and that the #connection quality and technical support may be less than ideal. Since we don’t have the opportunity to access #Starlink, and Mobile internet is too expensive, this is the way we can ensure the school has a working internet connection.

Modem will cost about $25 and the first 6 months of 50 Mbps Internet connection will cost ($35 x 6)= $210

Work stations, computers

In the concluding phase, the procurement of computers or laptops for the school remains pivotal. Initially, we considered acquiring #laptops from Europe and transporting them to Venezuela. However, due to the high expenses involved and the potential risk of theft during transit, we have opted to purchase them locally in #Venezuela. While the exact cost per unit is yet to be determined, we estimate it to be around $150 per unit. Considering the need for three units, this would result in an additional estimated cost of $450.

Education & Onboarding

Education and Training:
Provide #education and training programs to equip community members, particularly students, with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the Hive #Blockchain ecosystem. This includes understanding how to #earn rewards through activities like content #creation, #curation, and #delegation. Hive communities that communicate in Spanish, will provide assistance to the school in overcoming language obstacles.

Content Creation and Curation:
Encourage students and community members to start creating #content on the Hive blockchain, whether it's blogging, vlogging, or sharing their local knowledge. As they #create and #curate content, they can generate income in the form of the HIVE and HBD.

Income Generation:
Set up a delegation system where users can delegate a portion of their Hive Power to a central school account dedicated to supporting this #project. The school can collectively use this Hive Power to curate content, earn Hive rewards, and convert those #rewards into a fund for all related projects.

Long term goals:
Ensure the long-term #sustainability of the project by continuously monitoring the delegation and fund-allocation process. Make adjustments as needed to keep the project financially viable.

Impact:
Compose narratives highlighting the positive #influence achieved by this project. Share stories from schools and students about how Hive has transformed or is currently transforming lives, contributing to shaping a brighter future.

Scalability:
As the project proves successful in the initial location, #expand the initiative to more areas in Venezuela and potentially other regions facing similar challenges.

📢The Goal

The ultimate funding goal is: $1.500

Our commitment is to achieve the funding target by the end of June 2024. Our team is actively exploring various #funding avenues, with Crowdfunding emerging as our most potent resource.

Crowdfunding:
Our primary focus will be on leveraging #crowdfunding platforms such as GoFundMe. To maximize our reach, we'll engage our network of friends, family, local schools, churches, and utilize social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn. Additionally, we plan to reach out to companies and the Venezuelan embassy to expand our support base.

Venezuelan Communities Worldwide:
Recognizing the significant diaspora of approximately 7 million Venezuelans residing in various countries, we aim to establish connections with different communities globally. Through targeted outreach, we hope to garner substantial support for our funding initiative, and help cultivate opportunities for members of the #Venezuelan community on Hive.

Ko-fi Subscriptions and Donations:
Implementing a sustainable approach, we will encourage monthly #subscriptions on platforms like Ko-fi. This model not only ensures a continuous stream of funds for the current project but also lays the groundwork for future endeavors. A structured monthly #budget will enable us to enhance our organizational efficiency.

Non-Profit Organizations:
A systematic approach involves reaching out to numerous #non-profit organizations. We plan to initiate contact through email, phone calls, or LinkedIn messages. By presenting our cause to these organizations one by one, we hope to secure additional support and partnerships.

Hive Blockchain:
Leveraging the capabilities of the Hive blockchain community, we aim to engage users in various ways. Their assistance can include spreading #awareness on social media, contacting local communities, #voting on posts and comments, donating HIVE or HBD tokens, delegating #HivePower, sharing a percentage of rewards from their posts, participating in our crowdfunding efforts, and subscribing to our Ko-fi platform.

By strategically approaching these diverse funding sources, we believe we can build a solid foundation for our project and ensure its sustained success.

📅Future Philanthropy Plans for 2024

Setting a roadmap for our #philanthropy project is challenging, contingent on funding and its acquisition speed. Nevertheless, we have outlined our aspirations for 2024 in a more organized manner:

1. Liceo Agustín Aveledo:
   Establishing Liceo Agustín Aveledo as the first school in Venezuela with a self-sustained Hive Hub powered by Hive Blockchain.
2. Hive Cuba:
   Collaborating with @manuphotos and the vibrant Cuban community to extend our support to Cuba.
3. Starlink Ghana:
   Originally planned as our initial project, this initiative was temporarily postponed due to miscommunication. However, it remains a significant objective on our philanthropic agenda.
4. Official Organization Establishment:
   Initiate the creation of an official non-profit organization in the Netherlands.
   Cost: Approximately 1200 euros.
   Funding: A critical component for #kickstarting the organization, which will facilitate collaboration with various entities and amplify the outreach of Hive's mission.
5. Engaging the Global Community:
   Attract individuals who may lack financial resources but are eager to #contribute and invite them to join Hive. By posting articles they can delegate HP or donate a portion of rewards to our projects or other initiatives aligned with their values.

We think that by offering different ways for people to get involved, we can get help from many who want to contribute. Even as we deal with #funding challenges, we're dedicated to creating a #network that goes beyond money issues, so the community can play a meaningful part in our charitable efforts.
