I remember vividly how my adventure to the Lekki conservative center began. It was on a Sunday morning in year 2023, I was still asleep when I got a call from my friend Samin. I thought he wanted to just say Hello to me but he shocked me by saying:
Ola, how far? We dey go Lekki today o
Meaning: Ola, how far, we are going to Lekki today o
I initially wanted to decline because I am someone that loves to plan before doing anything. I would typically have needed a day to get clothes ready and even funds because I know I might need to buy some things like food or a souvenir.
I had been banking on leaving the house to unwind so I decided to accept. I got ready and then we rendezvoused at his house. We ate then hopped in the vehicle and started the trip to Lekki. We were a total of five that boarded: me, Samin, his two brothers and his brothers wife.
We got down from the vehicle and were greeted by monkeys. They didn't seems wild or harmful. They were roaming in the vicinity of the resort. My little friend here was eating a piece of snack that I shared with him.

We walked through the forest and were advised by the tour guides to hold our phones well because the monkeys could take it and run away with it.

The Frightening Part
Date of Picture: November 2023

Okay, that text "Point of no Return" was pretty creepy πΉ.
Well, life itself is full of risks right??
The canopy walk is made of ropes and a landing. Each step you take gets you higher in elevation. That's a picture of me at 49 feet. I feel like the altitude wasn't really what frightened me, it was the fear of the ropes cutting. Nigeria had a poor maintenance culture so I was scared the ropes would have been worn off and might cut off mid-air.
I climbed at total of 74 feet ! It was pretty high and I felt alive πΉπΉ. It really was a good feeling.
The Tree House
Date of Picture: November 2023

Okay, I couldn't climb this one πΉ. The canopy walk was bearable. At least, I depended on the ropes to keep me safe. But the tree house depended on my hands keeping me safe. The Nigerian boy in me thought of different scenarios that could kill me so I just ran away from climbing it.
I Felt Guilty

After the canopy walk, we were at the other side of the tour center were we could relax and also buy food to eat.
There was this little girl that was eating a burger, that was how one of the monkeys snatched it from her and ran away. I tried hard not to laugh. The little started crying and I just felt bad for her. Her parents got her another burger thou and then she smiled again. She got protective of her burger this time around.
Chess
Date of Pictures: November 2023

@samostically @justfavour , Have you ever played chess on the ground with large pieces like this?
This was my favorite part. I have often visited places that have the ground designed as a chess board but that this was first time I saw pieces as large as those. I remember mimicking the opening: Queens Gambit with those. πΉ
We took group pictures together then we the singles were scouting for a potential girlfriend there πΉ

The Monkey wanted to follow us Home
We were done enjoying ourselves and it was time to go home. That was how we saw one of the monkeys at the top of our vehicle. I was just laughing. My friends tried to chase it away but it was a brave one, it didn't even move. πΉ
I suggested using a banana to bribe him but we couldn't find one. After minutes of pandemonium, it finally left the car and we drove off back home.
A Secret π€«:
I actually wanted to take the monkey home and make him my friend but I know that I would definitely get arrested for doing that πΉ

I want to visit this place someday.
Maybe I should add it to my bucket list.
But was it not scary climbing the stairs
πΉ Not really, climbing wasn't scary
The only thing I was scared of was the rope cutting because I don't trust Nigeria's maintenance culture
Wow π congratulations you've survive walking through 74 feet canopy walk that's amazing π π€© you're so courageous π
Thank you very much π€
This is one of the most exciting posts I've read today! The place is excellent, there are so many activities to enjoy, and the best part is that you went with great friends. It's impossible not to have a great time here. Thanks for sharing this memory as a reflection on #TBT Thursdays; you're always welcome in our community whenever you have an interesting anecdote to share. Hugs!!!
Thank you so much for acknowledging my post π€
I really appreciate.
Yes, it was actually a fun place to visit. My friends even made it more fun for me. After that day, I remember storing all my pictures and videos in the cloud and also an external drive. I didn't ever want to lose it. It's a memory I wanted to relive again and again.
It was fantastic to be able to enjoy these kinds of experiences, and I hope they happen again!
Hugs!
Thank you much for stopping by β€οΈ
Yes, I hope to have more experiences.
I have been walking alone for a while now but I will unwind more and record my experiences too.
Thank you again!
This is a nice documentation of your visit to the conservation centre. I've always hoped to go there someday when I visit Lagos, and I still hope to.
The monkey, it looks really beautiful with its smooth back. And those exact thoughts you had while doing the canopy walk? Haha! That's very Nigerian, and I always share the same sentiment. I guess it's our own way of managing risks. Lol. Happy you had a swell time.
Yechee thank youu β€οΈ
Don't trust those monkeys, they will steal your food or phone and run away πΉ
Who knows, maybe I might be the one to take you there if you're in Lagos.
Lol, yeah the Nigerian in me took over πΉ
And yes, I had a fun time that year.
Thank you for stopping by Yechee β€οΈ
You're welcomeeeee. I don't trust them. I mean, I already read what they did at the park to the girl. I'm only admiring.π
Well, we'll see about that whenever I'm in Lagos.π Have a lovey rest of your day, Ola.β¨οΈ
