Nuestro Concierto en Badajoz, España [Esp-Eng]

Nuestro concierto en Badajoz fue una experiencia única, y no refiero al hecho de haber cantado una sola vez en esa ciudad española, sino a lo que significa haberse presentado en el imponente Palacio de Congresos de Badajoz, un lugar con el cual soñé en visitar y que se hizo realidad el 24 de Marzo de 2024, a unas pocas semanas de haber iniciado la primavera.

Our concert in Badajoz was a unique experience, and I am not referring to the fact of having sung only once in that Spanish city, but to what it means to have performed in the imposing Palacio de Congresos de Badajoz, a place I dreamed of visiting and which became a reality on March 24, 2024, just a few weeks before the beginning of spring.

Badajoz fue especial por ser el primer concierto oficial de La Coral en España y el primer encuentro con familiares y amistades venezolanas. No conocí mucho la ciudad, nuestro hotel estaba un poco retirado del centro, pero aproveché de visitar cada rincón del teatro. La acústica era de ensueño y el diseño del auditorio tan mágico como lo vi ciento de veces en fotografías; creo que lo único que no me gustó ya estando de pie en medio del escenario fue el fondo negro, siento que solo se ve bien de lejos.

Badajoz was special because it was the first official concert of La Coral in Spain and the first meeting with Venezuelan family and friends. I did not know much of the city, our hotel was a bit far from the center, but I took the opportunity to visit every corner of the theater. The acoustics were dreamy and the design of the auditorium as magical as I saw it a hundred times in photographs; I think the only thing I did not like while standing in the middle of the stage was the black background, I feel it only looks good from afar.

La hermosa música que pueden escuchar en el video es el Cantique de Jean Racine, una obra del compositor Gabriel Fauré para coro y órgano escrita a mediados de 1865. Llevamos esta composición a nuestra gira porque el autor estaba por cumplir 100 años desde su muerte, y es una manera de honrar su memoria. Esa fue la pieza musical con la cual terminamos nuestro primer concierto en España, el cual recuerdo como uno de los más sublimes en cuanto a repertorio, toda la música fue sacra y muy calmada.

The beautiful music you can hear in the video is the Cantique de Jean Racine, a work by composer Gabriel Fauré for choir and organ written in mid-1865. We took this composition on our tour because the author was about to celebrate 100 years since his death, and it is a way to honor his memory. That was the piece of music with which we ended our first concert in Spain, which I remember as one of the most sublime in terms of repertoire, all the music was sacred and very calm.

El pianista que nos acompaña es el talentoso joven español Calio Alonso, una inspiración para toda la agrupación y un Maestro que sigue adquiriendo éxito internacional. Fue un placer trabajar con él, de hecho era nuestra segunda vez, y ahora en 2025 estamos ansiosos de que regrese y volvamos a hacer música juntos. Hay personas que realmente aportan grandeza a nuestras vidas, y junto a él creo que nos graduamos con el Requiem de Fauré, el cual cantamos en todas las ciudades españolas que conocimos.

The pianist accompanying us is the talented young Spaniard Calio Alonso, an inspiration to the whole group and a Maestro who continues to achieve international success. It was a pleasure to work with him, in fact it was our second time, and now in 2025 we are looking forward to his return and making music together again. There are people who really bring greatness to our lives, and with him I think we graduated with Fauré's Requiem, which we sang in every Spanish city we met.

De Badajoz aprendí que la realidad supera a las expectativas y que no importa las fronteras o el cansancio cuando todo se ha construido con paso firme y cuando se trabaja en equipo con las personas correctas. De hecho tenemos una lista de nuestros conciertos favoritos, y este siempre es el último de esa lista, quizás por ser el primero, quizás por ser una prueba de lo que vendría después, o quizás porque no conectamos con esta ciudad como lo pudimos hacer con otras, pero siempre será el primero de una aventura irrepetible y cambió mi nuestra vida profesional para siempre 🙏

From Badajoz I learned that reality surpasses expectations and that it doesn't matter the borders or the tiredness when everything has been built with a firm step and when working as a team with the right people. In fact we have a list of our favorite concerts, and this one is always the last on that list, maybe because it was the first, maybe because it was a test of what would come later, or maybe because we did not connect with this city as we could do with others, but it will always be the first of an unrepeatable adventure and it changed my our professional life forever 🙏
