A trip to remember

A Trip to Remember

It was a cold Thursday morning in December 2021. The air was sharp and quiet, and my friends and I were sitting around, bored out of our minds. You know the kind of boredom that makes even the smallest suggestion sound like a genius idea? That’s where we were.

“Why don’t we visit the Urua Inyang River?” someone said suddenly.

At first, we laughed it off. The river was in another community, the kind of place you’d only go to if you were really looking for trouble—or adventure. But the idea stuck, and before we knew it, we had made up our minds. By evening, we were on our way.

Now, let me tell you, the journey was something else. The back roads were a nightmare—muddy, uneven, and full of potholes that could swallow a tire. At one point, I thought, “Maybe this wasn’t such a great idea after all.” But between the jokes, the teasing, and the random stories we shared along the way, the trip started to feel like an adventure all on its own.

When we finally got there, the sight of the river stopped us in our tracks. It was stunning. The water was so calm it looked like glass, reflecting the trees and sky perfectly. The breeze was cool, and for a moment, it felt like the world had slowed down just for us.

We didn’t waste any time. Some of us waded into the water, while others stayed back, snapping pictures like their lives depended on it. The rest of us just sat there, soaking it all in—the quiet, the beauty, the feeling of being somewhere completely different.

By the time we were ready to leave, it was dark, and we were exhausted. Our clothes were dirty, our shoes were a mess, but none of that mattered. What mattered was how alive we felt, how free. That day wasn’t just about the river; it was about everything—the struggle, the laughter, the silence, and the bond we shared.

To this day, whenever I think of that trip, I smile. It wasn’t perfect, but that’s what made it unforgettable. December 2021 will always be the month we said yes to a crazy idea and came back with memories that felt like gold.
