Misty fall mornings in the village—nature’s way of saying, “I know you had plans, but let’s add a little drama to your day.” With a DJI Air 2S in hand and visibility barely stretching past the nearest fence post, I decided to embrace the vibes and channel my inner Christopher Nolan. The result? These atmospheric, broody aerial shots that could double as a trailer for a slow-burn Netflix series about existential farmers.
Let’s break this down and take a look at what went into capturing the moody magic—and the occasional hilarity—of a foggy flight.
The Canal of Contemplation
First up, we have a canal shot so misty it could make even the most optimistic person start journaling about life’s fleeting nature. The water stretches into infinity—or maybe just the next bridge, who knows? You can barely see where it ends, and honestly, that’s part of the charm.
This shot feels like it belongs in an indie film where a troubled main character stares into the distance, whispering something poetic like, “The fog hides what the heart already knows.” Or maybe just, “Crap, I forgot my grocery list.”
The real kicker, though, is how the mist does all the work for you. No crazy filters. No painstaking edits. Just Mother Nature saying, “Here’s your minimalist vibe on a silver platter. You’re welcome.”
The Village’s Crowning Jewel: The Steeple of Mystery
Ah, the church steeple. Is it just me, or does this thing scream, “I’m watching over you, but also might harbor a small conspiracy”? With the mist rolling in and a flock of birds conveniently photobombing, this shot has serious “true-crime documentary” energy. I half expected the church bells to start playing the opening chords of Stranger Things while I flew by.
And let’s not ignore the details here. The clock on the steeple—frozen in time. (Okay, it’s not actually frozen; I just took the shot while it wasn’t moving, but let’s pretend it adds to the intrigue.)
Aerial photography isn’t just about showing the scene—it’s about telling a story. And this steeple? It’s clearly holding a secret. Maybe it’s where all the village’s lost socks go.
A Boat to Nowhere
Next, we have a barge cruising down the canal. This photo captures the epitome of fall’s laziness. The boat says, “I’m not in a rush, so why are you?” It’s the perfect metaphor for life in the village: slow, steady, and heavily reliant on fog for aesthetic appeal.
The way the canal carves through the misty fields feels like a reminder that even in the hazy unknown, there’s a path forward. Deep, right? But let’s not kid ourselves—this is also just a great excuse to test the drone’s Return-to-Home feature because I momentarily lost it in the fog.
Fun fact: If you squint hard enough, you’ll see a guy in a neon jacket walking along the canal path. He’s the unsung hero of this composition, unknowingly adding scale and a pop of color. Or he’s just out for his daily walk, completely oblivious to the fact that he’s now Instagram famous.
The Village That Time Forgot (But My Drone Didn’t)
The bird’s-eye view of the village is where the Air 2S really shines. From above, the rooftops look like they were pulled straight from a cozy holiday postcard, except with less snow and more fog-induced gloom. The streets are so empty, you’d think there was a town-wide meeting I didn’t get invited to.
Pro tip: Misty conditions are the ultimate cheat code for making mundane buildings look cinematic. Those solar panels? Futuristic energy hubs. That grocery store? A portal to another dimension. That random red car in the corner? The protagonist’s getaway vehicle.
Lessons from the Fog
Here’s what I’ve learned from flying in these conditions:
Visibility is a Suggestion: Don’t expect your drone to see much further than you can. I spent more time staring at the screen than enjoying the actual scenery, which is basically the 2024 version of “don’t forget to smell the roses.”
Trust Your Sensors: The Air 2S is like a loyal companion whispering, “I got you, buddy.” Even when I felt like the drone might just give up and land in the canal, its obstacle avoidance and GPS stayed rock solid.
Don’t Fear the Fog: While it’s tempting to wait for clear skies, mist can add an element of mystery and artistry that sunny days just can’t touch. Your photos go from “nice” to “where’s the protagonist?”
Closing Thoughts
So there you have it: a moody morning in the village captured in all its foggy glory. Was it the most practical flying day? No. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Because sometimes, you don’t need perfect conditions—you just need a willingness to explore and a drone that doesn’t mind a little moisture.
Remember, the next time you’re staring at gray skies and thinking, “Not today,” grab your gear and go for it. The world doesn’t always give you golden-hour sunsets, but it sure knows how to set a vibe.
Just saying.

I love your drone photos! It makes me want to buy a nice one and try for myself. Here though airspace is very restricted due to the number of nearby airports. About the only place I could do it is Seal Beach or head out into the California deserts past Palm Springs. Awesome shots in the fog my friend!

Thank you very much!!!
Yeah, I'm pretty lucky on that account... Belgium is pretty restricted as well, but I live in an area that is a few quare kilometers of Temporarily restricted, which means I can fly about 60-70% of the time :-) And since there's a lot of fields and forests here, I don't disturb anyone either.
Drone flying is a lot of fun, and definitely worth the try! But I do admit, if I didn't live here, but in a restricted area, I'm not sure if I'd own this many as I do ;-)
