Hello and welcome back to my blog!
There were so many beautiful games that came out this year. I enjoyed a lot of them. Some I played not for the gameplay but purely for aesthetics. One such game that I admired a lot is Sword of the Sea.
There are very few games where you pause every few minutes, not because you are tired or something, but because you are spending more time in the photomode than playing the actual game.
I won't tell a lot about the gameplay, but show you its beauty through this post.
The stylised art style in this game is exactly what I prefer.
You play as this character who can use his sword to glide in this mystical world full of wonders. Your job is to solve small puzzles, explore the world and bring back the water to this place. I don't know much about the story, and I don't care much anyway. I play this from time to time just to admire the beauty. Doing some backflips on your blade while admiring the magical world.
I remember the first time I encountered those Orcas in the game, it was such a magical experience. Don't ask me why the world is filled with water up to the sky. This is a strange place with a lot of strange creatures. But all calming and soothing. The music fits perfectly with this theme.
You can perform cool tricks using your sword. There are a lot of cool interactive things in this world. One of my favourite places in the early game is the area filled with large jellyfish, which are perfect for bouncing.
I played a lot with the internal photo mode of the game. I knew there was going to be one looking at this game. It would be a crime not to have one on such a pretty game with a unique art style.
Naturally, I spent a lot of time trying to time my shots and capture some stunts on that Hoversword. I love how they combined both sword and surfboard. Even though there is a sword-shaped board, this game doesn't have any fighting mechanics. It would not fit the vibe of this game.
The article is minimalist but full of energy with its rich colours, contrast and looks like a fine painting that just flows well. Look at the sky, those clouds are so soft and flowy, like someone is painting with a free hand.
One of the finest uses of complementary colours I have seen in gaming. Using the warm oranges or the desert sand with cool blues. Deep shadows and bright highlights that create a lot of contrast.
Sword of the Sea is such a unique experience where you don't rush from one point to the next trying to do a random objective, but explore at your own pace while admiring everything that you pass. The way you described pausing more for photos than gameplay is something I can relate to. Some worlds are just too beautiful to rush through. And this game looks incredibly soothing.

He uses the sword as a kind of skateboard, which I think is great. I don't remember seeing that in any other game.
The style is very nice. I think it could be relaxing, especially if it has good music like you mentioned.
It made me want to play it.

Games that are designed to give you the opportunity to sit still, observe, think, and reflect are truly beautiful; they are the ones that personally fill my soul the most. The screenshots you shared fascinate me; the colors are beautiful, the art is great, and they are unique. I will definitely check out this installment and try to play it.
