The horde challenge in Days Gone pushed survival to its limits as waves of Freakers overwhelmed every position. After multiple deadly mistakes and failed strategies, careful movement and constant relocation proved decisive, allowing survival until the timer finally expired.

I decided to take on a horde challenge in Days Gone, where the goal was simply to survive as long as possible. As soon as the challenge started and I saw the massive wall of Freakers surging toward me, I felt a wave of genuine fear. The scale of the horde in this mode is enough to make anyone panic.

I immediately started looking for environmental hazards to use to my advantage. I managed to blast several oil barrels as the horde passed by, successfully thinning their numbers with massive explosions. However, they were still coming, so I had to keep moving and stopping to take shots and slow their momentum.

I scrambled up some stairs and dove through a broken window into an apartment, desperately hoping for a back exit. It turned out to be a fatal mistake; I was pinned down inside with no second window to escape through. The horde went in after me, and I was overwhelmed in seconds.

At the restart, I changed my strategy and ran ahead to set up a sequence of explosions. I wanted to lead the horde into a bottleneck where my traps would do the most damage before they could get within striking distance.

While running backward and firing, I made a major mistake. I accidentally exploded an oil drum while I was still standing right next to it. The blast caught me, and due to a strange visual glitch, it looked like Deacon actually lost a hand.

I stumbled away from the blast and managed to drop a few more Freakers before heading to a new spot. There, I spotted a flammable box that released a thick cloud of smoke when shot, creating a temporary distraction that gave me a few precious seconds to breathe.

I kept backpedaling and firing into the mass of bodies, but my stamina eventually gave out. As I slowed down, the fastest Freakers began to outrun me. I had to stop shooting and just sprint for my life to put some distance between us.

I spotted an old school bus and climbed on top, thinking the height advantage would slow them down or force them to climb up one by one. It was only a temporary fix.

I jumped off the bus and sprinted down an alley where I found a ladder. I climbed up to a roof, praying that the Freakers wouldn't be able to follow me up there so I could pick them off from safety.

They proved me wrong almost immediately. The horde started "stacking" and climbing the walls even without the ladder. Watching them swarm up the side of the building was terrifying, and I realized nowhere was truly safe.

After clearing a few off the roof, I jumped down and ran toward my bike, but it was totally wrecked and useless. As the horde closed in, I tried to make a final stand, but they swarmed over me and took me down for a second time.

On my third attempt, I focused entirely on survival and movement rather than just killing. I kept a steady pace, only turning to shoot when they got too close. This "run and gun" tactic was working much better for keeping the clock ticking.

At one point, a large portion of the horde actually lost interest and stopped following me. I went looking for them to ensure I was still in the clear, which almost landed me in another mess, but I managed to stay away. Finally, the countdown hit zero, and I successfully completed the challenge.
