A Small Start With Aloy | Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is a game I played during the pandemic, when they gave it away for free on the PlayStation store, and I still remember downloading it and getting really excited, so much so that I finished it in no time, as it was one of my first Playstation 4 games I played in my life, so the excitement intensified every time I turned on the console and put the game on.

I vividly remember the first time I completed the game; the thrill of completing the story was so intense that I became deeply attached to it. Eventually, and after exploring other titles, I stopped playing it. Recently, however, I decided to start a new game, keeping the items and armor from my previous game, all in order to relive that exciting beginning I experienced four years ago when I started this game for the first time.

Aloy's childhood was challenging; ostracized by her community, with no one who could speak to her, she grew up alone with a man who, without being her biological father, took on the responsibility of caring for her. This man not only took care of her, but also trained her to excel and prove to her tribe that she was not an outcast. Thanks to her effort and dedication, Aloy was able to prove that she had the ability to be whoever she chose to be.

When they had that festival, where Aloy was allowed to participate, she was able to prove her bravery and, for the sake of redundancy, become a brave. So, someone that they could recognize as their equal within their tribe and that she would no longer have the same treatment as the others. But before that, there was a moment where they threw lanterns into the air, lanterns that each mother made for her child. Not having a mother, one of the matriarchs who believed in Aloy made one for her, marking Aloy's beginning in a world that rejected her, but welcomed her to experience life as others.

After being named brave, a disastrous attack occurred in the mountain. Armed men began to attack and kill, tragically taking the lives of almost all the children who that day were competing for their title as brave Nora. Even in an attempt to take Aloy’s life, Rost, who acted as her tutor and adoptive father, managed to arrive in time, saving her by throwing her down the mountain before a bomb detonated that took his own life but saved Aloy’s. She was helped and cared for by the matriarch who appreciated her, Teersa, who showed her many things: where she came from, what she believed was her purpose and even, along with the other matriarchs who despised her, they decided to get rid of her. But not in a violent way, instead naming her Nora Seeker so Aloy could travel every place without limitations by her tribe.

After embarking on her adventure in a gloomy environment filled with mourning, Aloy asked for the main door leading outside to be opened. Amidst a trivial struggle to be recognized as a Seeker rather than an outcast, a machine suddenly appeared, corrupting the others and initiating an attack on the Nora tribe. Thanks to Aloy’s extensive knowledge of archery, the tribe achieved victory.

Here begins Aloy’s adventure. What you can read in my explanation is just the beginning; the game is very extensive in its story, and its landscapes and settings are beautiful.
