Hey mural fans! Today I have to share a positive outcome from street art in this small Mexican community.
This mural (which covers an entire neighborhood) is located in the city of Pachuca, which is the capital of Hidalgo, a state in Mexico. It is my entry for @digi-me 's CCC's Street Art Contest #20.
Palmitas was an otherwise unassuming neighborhood that needed a refresh. Plagued by poverty and violence, the Mexican government took the steps to change that fate, by painting the entire neighborhood into one GIANT mural!!
Known by locals as "Macromural de Pachuca", it was designed to be a facelift and a source of pride for the community, it was funded initially by a grant. Like similar projects downtrodden areas - such as Medellin in Colombia, bright colors and bold lines would be used to give the sense of positivity, draw in tourism, and deter criminals.
Before long, people forgot why they were fighting, and some jobs were even created! For these some 200+ houses and nearly 500 families, that was all the difference in the world. And now they are on that stage for us to admire!
Today you can visit this neighborhood and see it for yourself! All around is brightly painted, including the alleys, stairs, and nearly every building. You'll definitely say wow.

Wahoo impressive mural... I don't dare to imagine the number of liters of paint and the hours of work to make it... but the result is stunning.
