Melbourne, Australia is a city that likes to define itself by it's street art
You can't spend anytime outside without encountering an artists view of the world.
Today we are just slightly north of the downtown - in the suburb of Brunswick
this work by artist BBB is both slightly confusing but also welcoming and I think I like that.
I always enjoy art that relates or interacts with this surrounds, this wall of dancing men was much much larger than what I photographed, but I liked how in contrasted with the naked wall behind and how the clear blue sky of winter was replicated in the blue stripe at the top of the 'jazz' building, which is what I will call it.
This is one of those pieces that get better the closer you get,, from a distance it seems like a simple anime comic panel, but once you get closer enough to read it takes on a fantastic sinister darkly comic tone, I mean which street artists don't want to kill trust fund arseholes.
Of course the interaction between artists need to be called out here.
And finally a piece that spoke to me. After spending time last month in the Northern part of Australia and seeing thousands of years old aboriginal rock art which tells of what can he hunted and gathered in the surrounding parts, this piece spoke to me as a fantastic modernization of the concept - the Aboriginal Australian flag (designed in 1971 by the way Harold Thomas if your not Australian maybe you don't understand the meaning - the black symbolises the Aboriginal people, the red represents the earth and the colour of ochre used in Aboriginal ceremonies, and the circle of yellow represents the sun, the constant renewer of life.)
Very cool selection of street art especially the last one with the Aboriginal flag. Connecting back to the land and its history is cool.
Cool selection... I like your photos especially the second with these different layers (sky, brick and art). And the message on the last is cool "This land can grow tomatoes" if it can get people in the neighborhood to take this abandoned plan and turn it into community gardens 👍
Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
