There are two types of Fado in Portugal, Lisbon Fado and Coimbra Fado.
There are differences in the lyrics. Coimbra Fado is traditionally sung by men (there are some incursions of female voices but they always generate some controversy, traditionalists argue that Coimbra Fado can only be sung by men).
Another curiosity in the differences, in Fado de Coimbra you don't clap your hands. The only way to applaud is to cough or pigarrear (a slight sound emitted by the throat).
