Diving in Puerto Galera

This time I take you to Puerto Galera. In my previous post I told you about Puerto Galera, you can read it here: Trip to Puerto Galera

And now it's time to get wet.

Our first dive was a muck dive. We wanted to start easy because both of us were not in perfect shape. Long travelling and busy work made us feel a bit tired. A muck dive is mostly a very shallow dive were you hoover just above the bottom to find bottom dwellers and critters.

And we were very lucky .. We spotted a Blue ringed octopus, one of the most deadly creatures :)

Another dive was a day trip to Verde Island. This is an island completely underwater, except the pinnacle. This dive is not really for new divers as you can have some current here. At the time we were diving there, the current was quite strong. The dive was post poned a couple of times because of weather conditions. So you need a little bit of experience for this dive. But it was a great dive! We had some spots during the dive where we could find shelter for the current and take some pictures. ![Verde Island015.JPG]() What a grumpy face!

This is the Durban hingebeak shrimp. If you see one, take a closer look ... most of the times you will find many others in the same spot.

Also on our list was the Canyon. This is a real drift dive. At one moment we ended up in a washing machine. The current was very strong and took us everywhere. This is a thrill seeking dive. You need some experience in drift diving as the washing machine can be dangerous if you don't have the skills. I don't have many pictures from this dive, because we were going way too fast to take decent snapshots :) But it is a very nice dive. A lot of bigger fish like barracudas, trevallies, snappers, jacks... And if you're lucky even a shark (we didn't saw one). And of course you have a wonderful scenery to enjoy.

The last dive I want to share with you is the Alma Jane wreck. I heard a lot of different stories, so I have no idea which one is true. The one I heard the most was it was a Japanese cargo ship. It was stripped and sunken in 2003 especially for diving. It lies upright at a depth of 30 metres.
I do love wrecks, it's not only a bunch of rusty metal. No, a wreck is full of life. By the years, nature takes over and it will be fully covered by corals. It becomes an artificial reef and it will attract a lot of marine life. When we were there, we saw a big school of batfish all over the wreck.

Sadly all good things come to an end and we had to go back to reality. It was a short break, but well worth. I enjoyed Puerto Galera, on land and underwater.
