Earlier this summer I was out with my family on a little road trip. It was quite complicated due to COVID and all the regulations, and we had to do thorough research about what regulations had to be followed whenever we crossed a border and whenever we had to fix accommodation.
What do I mean? For example, as we entered Germany, we knew that the adults need a valid PCR test or a vaccine passport, and the same was true for kids 10 years or older. In Austria, the regulations were similar, only that kids 7 or older needed a valid PCR test. So, it was kind of messy, but after reading and asking around, we got all the answers we needed.
And yes, you don't need those valid PCR tests only to enter the country. If you are to sleep in a hotel or rent an apartment, you need a valid PCR test once again. So, it was messy, but luckily they have lots of places in Germany where you can get a free PCR test, making it all the easier.
Our stop in Nurnberg
We stopped in Nurnberg during our little road trip. None of us had been to the city before, so we really didn't have a clue about what to expect. But, the city was really amazing and it had a great atmosphere, especially when you walk along the canals in the center of the city. This is a fantastic place to drink a cup of coffee or have a glass of wine or eat a serious meal if you are hungry.
Since we didn't have much time and traveled with kids, we decided to jump on this city train (which really is a bus). The trip lasted for forty minutes and we got to see the city center from within, and we also traveled outside the old city walls of the city.
If you love history, you will for sure enjoy the history of the city and a walk along with the old castle and along the city walls.
No matter what, Nurnberg has turned into a sweet memory in my mind, and I would love to return there sometime later if I ever get the chance. Hopefully then, without the need for vaccination passports, PCR tests and more... but who knows what the future has in store for us!
Kind of odd, that the place where people sentenced to death after WW2 is implementing the same procedures again to the population. Papers please, seems like the history repeats itself again due the lack of awareness and blind obedience to the authorities.
I wouldn't compare COVID to nazism... but one thing I do feel sorry about is not having the chance to visit the Second World War locations of importance in Nurnberg during my stay there.
