A green oasis under the Znojmo castle

Karolina's gardens, spread over the slopes below the Znojmo Castle, is a picturesque park that attracts both local residents and tourists. It offers a peaceful atmosphere, beautiful scenery and a colorful history that dates back to the Middle Ages.

Historie:

Svahy pod kostelem sv. Mikuláše lákaly vinaře již ve středověku. Až do poloviny 19. století se tu rozkládaly vinice. V roce 1833 navštívila Znojmo rakouská císařovna Karolína Augusta Bavorská a na její počest byly sady založeny a pojmenovány. V průběhu 19. století park získal romantický charakter s cestičkami, terasami a vyhlídkami na údolí Dyje. V roce 2011 prošly sady rozsáhlou revitalizací, která zahrnovala obnovu vinice, vysazení nových stromů a instalaci mobiliáře.

History:

The slopes below the church of St. Nicholas attracted winemakers already in the Middle Ages. Until the middle of the 19th century, vineyards were located here. In 1833, the Austrian empress Caroline Augusta of Bavaria visited Znojmo, and the orchards were founded and named in her honor. During the 19th century, the park acquired a romantic character with paths, terraces and views of the Dyje valley. In 2011, the estates underwent extensive revitalization, which included the restoration of the vineyard, the planting of new trees and the installation of furniture.

Sousoší Kalvárie

V parku se nachází několik historických památek, jako je barokní sousoší Kalvárie

barokní sousoší tvořené osmi skulpturami z poloviny 18. století, respektive z roku 1803, je v současné době umístěno na terasu Karolíniných sadů. Původně bylo sousoší umístěno před průčelím kostela sv. Alžběty na Vídeňské ulici.

Calvary sculpture

There are several historical monuments in the park, such as the baroque Calvary sculpture

the baroque sculpture made up of eight sculptures from the middle of the 18th century, respectively from 1803, is currently placed on the terrace of Karolíniné sady. The sculpture was originally placed in front of the church of St. Elizabeth on Vienna Street.
